Question On New Jinteki Identity :SPOILER:

By Kuk, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

We had a heated argument tonight regarding the newer Jinteki Identity card which awkwardly states a double negative, "The Runner cannot run on remote servers. Ignore this ability until the end of the turn whenever the Runner runs on a central server." Getting rid of the double negative it would (should) say, "The Runner can run on remote servers until the end of the turn whenever the Runner runs on a central server." Does this mean that the Runner can only run on remote servers after he first made a run on the central servers in a turn, or as soon as a Runner makes a run on the Central Server, he can't make a run on remote servers for the rest of the game?

this means that the Runner can only run on remote servers after he first made a run on the central servers in a turn

Indeed. Should be clearer if broken down: beginning of turn, you cannot run on remotes. After running on a central server, ignore previous rule until turn ends.

I was thinking I was gonna come in here and find out about a third Jinteki ID.

Yeah. New card text is *CGs is only "spoiler" text if the set is not yet widely available.

It is not a double negative. There is only one negative in the first sentence. There is no need for clarification. It would be a double-negative if it said "The runner cannot run on remote servers if the runner hasn't first run on a Central Server each turn."

The OP's suggested text would actually be more confusing. There is no point in phrasing it that way because runners can run on remote servers without running on Central servers anyway. Your phrasing doesn't exclude them from running on Remote servers without first running on a Central Server. The card as is says you cannot run on Remote servers, which is crystal clear. It then gives the method for bypassing that restriction. It is best in its current form.

I too thought there was a new Jinteki ID that hadn't been released yet. Spoiler shouldn't have been used in this thread title.

The wording on this identity card was not chosen well, because if you really stop to think about it, it could also be interpreted as "Well, [Mr./Ms./Mrs./Dr./etc.] Runner, now that you have completed a turn where you made a run on a central server, you may no longer make runs on remote servers the rest of the game, because you can no longer ignore the ability that is stated in the first sentence."

Man, that would really stink!! I'm glad that's not how it works! :P

Not really, no. Whenever means whenever, not the first time. So whenever you run on a central server, you ignore the restriction for the remainder of the current turn. I really don't see any ambiguity.

Yes, but see, then it's not funny anymore like it used to be.
