Anyone have a successful Gondor deck?

By sapender, in Strategy and deck-building

Hey all,

I challenge all the great deck builders out there to make something that could really shine as a main deck or if that's not possible a really sweet support deck...

As the title explains I am looking for a good Gondor deck... it doesn't have to main deck, in fact I really like to play support decks that are really good at what they do... like a mono tactics killing machine, their ability to fight is unparallelled.. please let me know what you have...

Well, I am certainly not a great deckbuilder, but here are a pair of decks I've been using. There is a Gondor theme for the tri-sphere deck, but it is not pure. I mixed in other cards for function. The other deck was not built with Gondor in mind, but some of it fits...

Great! this is a good start... I like to see what other people are doing... thanks for posting so quick...

I would also love to see Boromir or Begerond... anyone else with ideas for a Gondor deck...

Actualy im at work but right when we get next pack we can easily made decks with lore ranger-gondor trait. With lots of traps. For hero choice i reffer Mirlonde(for threat reduction at setup), Faramir and Denethor. To help it out the 2nd player can try build deck with Beregond, Boromir(leadership - for dmg boost), and maybe legolas for helping faramir to kill any character (and place tokens on quest). And if u play 3 player game add to that rohan spirit deck for lots of quest abilities and u get 3 quite well work decks. In the next pack u will get another character that can get traps from discard pile, thats why its recommended to wait for at least next pack :)

I'm playing Leadership Boromir, Faramir and Beregond. I don't think I'll be able to tackle the Willpower-heavy quests before 'Visionary Leadership' is available via The Morgul Vale, but the trio works alright against the Heirs of Numenor quests.

Key cards:

Steward of Gondor (on Faramir)

Horn of Gondor (Boromir)

Envoy of Pelargir (amazing on opening hand if you have Steward of Gondor, Warden of Healing, Ranger Spikes, Gleowine or other 2-cost cards)

Shield of Gondor/ Spear of the Citadel (Beregond)

Hands upon the Bow (Faramir sniping enemies before they engage)

Feint

Defender of Rammas

Gondorian Spearman (equip with Spear of the Citadel for combo with Ranger Bow)

Ranger Bow (on Ithilien Tracker)

Ithilien Tracker (threat reduction in staging area, subsequent trackers for Ranger Bow)

Ithilien Archer

Ranger Spikes (fuelling Faramir's attack)

Warden of Healing

Denethor (one copy only, but he matters)

Gandalf (threat reduction, willpower)

Sneak Attack (of course)

Gleowine (yes, Rohan, not Gondor, but card draw is crucial)

Citadel Custodian (extra willpower and target for Archery damage, usually played for cost of 1 or less resources)

My friend has been using Aragorn (Core), Beregond (HoN) and Boromir (HoN), but he's thinking about using the new Faramir (AoO) and switching HoN Boromir for TDM Boromir to avoid using three spheres. A lot of Ranger-based cards are Lore, so Faramir would fit right in. If you use Lore, Warden of Healing is also a nice choice (and a Gondorian!) He's in The Long Dark.

@ Olorin

I will probably try Loragon with TDM Boromir and the third I'm torn as to who I should use...

So many good ideas here... Keep them coming...

That's true, Loragorn and Faramir would make for a nice ranger team!

This is my Gondor deck. Although it has some non thematic cards in it.

Deck Strategy : I havent played many adventures with this deck yet but I have beaten Assault on Osgiliath and Encounter at Amon Din and I must say. It fits those thematicly perfectly :). Either way. Eowyn is your main quester, Beregond is the defender as usual. Boromir will be a main attacker. You will want to try to keep atleast 1 resource in his pool at all times. I use the old combo of Gandalf and Sneak Attack to keep my threat at bay when possible. Really I dont have much else to say, The deck is pretty self explanatory. It is a little weak in the questing department. Especially if your opening hand doesnt contain a questing ally or attachment for Eowyn. Im currently attempting to beat Massing at Osgiliath. I got really close last game. Killed the Witch King but sadly hit 50 threat on the turn after >.<.

EDIT : Just beat Massing at Osgiliath at 45 threat. Lost Beregond to a blow from a shadow card dealt to the Witch King. Went all out on questing next turn and Finished it off :).
