Wikipedia's at it again

By MarcoPulleaux, in UFS General Discussion

Oh Wikipedia, there you go again revealing spoilers because you know none of us read you...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Fighting_System

For those who for whatever reason can't read it, I'll give you the simple version

SC4

Starters: Cervantes, Ivy, Nightmare, Siegfried
Pack: Algol, Astaroth, Hilde, Tira

ShadoWar

Starters: Astrid, Ragnar, Yi Shan, Zi Mei
Pack: Lu Chen, Rashotep, Temujin, Zhao Daiyu

Well, Astafruit fans got their wish. I'm mostly excited for starter Zi Mei, sweet Christ >_>. Also, if they could make Ivy good this time, that'd be lovely <3

Huzzah for a starter Yi Shan! I cannot wait for that... There are way too many days between now and when the new stuff comes out.

SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK

I love the fact that they made Nightmare vs Siggy and Ivy vs Cervantes into the starters, that's fantastic for recruiting Soul Cal fans (on top of all the free stuff...). I loves it :D

Starter Yi Shan is good, I just need to get a set of the promo and boom +8 / -8 to all attacks... >_>

What do you mean eight? It's nine because of your opponent's character too.

Oh, I hope the abilities on it are awesome...

Speaking of which when are the new packs coming out? Im eager to get me my Tira *w* yesssss my precious.

Mid April IIRC

I'm excited as Hell, really. I mostly wish we had artwork for Astrid and Ragnar since we haven't seen them (although, knowing fantasy lore as I do, I'm sure Ragnar is the guy who's using Hammer Uppercut). But yeah, smart choices on starters, and I'm really looking forward to all of this.

Or more if your opponent also stacks characters.

Although that is prepostrous. Nobody does that anymore.

Yi Shan Vs. Yi Shan. +16/-16. =P Completely useless, but still.

Or, like I experienced the other day, Yi Shan versus Cody. Oh man, it was sweet awesome times.

Outside of Cody, I'm unaware of any tourney-level stacking.

I really wish one of Hata's newest changes would be to make all characters of maybe 4-5 difficulty instead of 6. Stacking should be an integral part of this game, and most decks should run characters not just for 6 checks with +0-mids, but rather, to stack. I understand that 6 difficulty is because a character's abilities are THE strongest abilities, but 6 difficulty is generally the reason stacking doesn't exist =/

Also, and I know I've said this a lot, MORE CHARACTER-ONLYs! Seriously, a lot of characters could have incentive if only they had some character-specific support. I realize they want to move away from character-only cards because of their misfortune at pre-releases and whatnot, but holy crap, a pre-release is one day; just don't run that 1 card.

Still excited. Guess we'll be seeing some terrains huh?

If I get a Yi-Shan deck, and open it to reveal 4 copies of Yi-Shan at a difficulty lower then 6, I'm getting on a plane, going to Hata's new place, and bowing before him. Not that Yi-shan is that amazing. It's just that it would add to the awesomeness that we already have had revealed to us if he brings that back.

HDC, I know you like Mr. James Hata, and don't get me wrong he is a great player and cool person, but I find that your way over the top with the ass kissing to James, don't you think?

If he gives us characters with less than six difficulty, then he deserves the butt kissing.

Eh, FFG has done a wonderful job of making it look like their company is run on nothing but sheer incompetence, and that James is basically its saving grace. Although I gotta admit, wasn't a fan of the last two sets. Not. One. Bit.

I'm kidding, Shajir. I'm always kidding. No one is that out of their mind. The only money I have is going to my trip to GenCon this year anyway =p. Which I expect to see your ass at, sir. And our regional. come to that, too. =).

I wanna know who it is that's getting this info and posting it on wikipedia actually.

You do remember that Wiki is open for editing to anyone?

I could go over there right now and change it to James Hata, Jon Herr, Kin Tong, and Omar Chavez as the starting characters. Would that make it accurate?

I think FFG has done a pretty good job so far. And what was wrong with the last sets? I know they are not as good as the ones before them but they arent that bad. vulcan punch is really good =D granted i still like the SCIII set before them though.

@ MIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR HolyDragonCloud: I'll definetly be a gencon. NY Regionals are a week after I win Can Nats, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to go.

That's what I wanna hear. =)

What's more of a question is, what's the one way of finding out if this information is officially spoiled?

I suppose the obvious one is finding out who has the IP 72.218.82.114 and it turns out it's someone in Virginia. More specifically, Newport News.

To be honest, only an idiot would post something fallacious in Wikipedia knowing it can oh so easily be traced back to them...

edit: And before anyone goes "OMG he's a haxx0r" let me show you how easy. Go to the History in a Wikipedia page, then find the article that added the fallacious information. Copy the IP address shown then go online to any IP address locator on Google and have a field day.

Well, couple things about that...

1. I have yet to read any Wikipedia article that has fallacies. I have read a few that had grammar issues up the ass (meaning a fan did it), but no matter what page I go to, it's nothing but sheer research and fact with sources to back it up.

2. It's UFS. As much as we'd love to think so, UFS isn't some super huge ordeal. As such, it's extremely unlikely that some dying fanboy decided to kill our impatience and post what he wishes were the starters.

3. It's possible that one of the FFG personell, or somebody who knew the spoilers, posted them there, as they've done forever (every set thus far has been spoiled first on Wiki). I mean really, giving away the names of chars only spoils the roster; it doesn't tell us anything else.

Every set that comes out, some people doubt Wikipedia, and those who doubt have always been wrong. The general rule is to consider information on Wikipedia genuine unless given further information.

SOOOOO...

...

Couple of things...

1. Starter Cervantes needs to be good this time around. Ivy needs to be good period. Nightmare ought to be interesting, and judging from his attack, he's a control char. Nevertheless, starter Nightmare was awesome first time around. Astaroth hopefully does more than just pump damage.

2. Although I'm excited as a pig in ---- about ShadoWar, not everybody else is. This is likely to be their only shot, or rather, their best shot, so best of hopes and luck to that.

3. Last year, there was an EXTREME curve in what starters were good (Akuma, Mai, Sakura), and which ones were not (Ken, Haohmaru, Rock Howard). They need to make sure all 8 starters stand a viable chance against one another so it isn't just some 'tarded life gain battle like last time -_-

"1. I have yet to read any Wikipedia article that has fallacies. I have read a few that had grammar issues up the ass (meaning a fan did it), but no matter what page I go to, it's nothing but sheer research and fact with sources to back it up."

Once I was looking for information about the fruit fly. Under their reproduction, it said their um parts were named tallywhackers and that then they totally did it. I am not joking. Sure, the scientific community makes sure everything stays as true as possible (no, the fruit fly comment isn't there anymore) but yeah, fallacies are possible. VERY possible.

"3. It's possible that one of the FFG personell, or somebody who knew the spoilers, posted them there, as they've done forever (every set thus far has been spoiled first on Wiki). I mean really, giving away the names of chars only spoils the roster; it doesn't tell us anything else."

Someone who knew the spoilers would be more like it if that were the case. FFG personel doesn't work in Virginia.

Fallacies are possible, just not probable. Besides, as you noted, fallacies are easy to spot. I really doubt somebody in VA got bored and decided to fill in our blanks.

Besides, who the Hell are Astrid and Ragnar?

Wasn't Astrid mentioned in one of the stories? Ragnar, no clue.

Ragnar was mentioned in the same story as Astrid, they fight each other, Astrid wins by sidestepping and he falls off a castle rampart.

Astrid's a Valkyrie. Ragnar Giant's-Fist is a half giant.

EDIT: WHY ASTAROTH!?!? That makes six Astaroth's now, whereas we still only have 3 Xianghua, 3 Seong Mi-Na, 3 Maxi grumble grumble stupid walking vase grumble grumble.
