It's really just meant to look cool. I mean you may or may not think an actual photo of Mister Colt .45 is an improvement over a drawing of the Falcon in action, (although the Wedge one is straight up awesome, end of story), but people are going to see it on the table and go "dude, what is that? Where did you get that? How can I get that?" and be all envious. And that's really their entire reason for existing. Some people don't get that, or don't see the appeal, and that's fine. But really, just having something kind of unique that stands out and gets a little attention and makes other collectors envious is pretty much its entire reason for existing. ![]()
Why are Promo cards the same as basic, but with a different picture
There may be an underlying conspiracy by ffg to get more people to run wedge/lando squads. You didn't hear that from me though. (Shifty eyes)
Ha, if they were going to do that, they should release promo cards for the ships that nobody's buying. ![]()
Surely they could sell some more TIE Advanceds if they had a promo card of Vader force choking a fool.
I would LOVE an alternate art card for Tycho or Arvel.

Hey, look! I found a picture of Maarek Steele on Wookieepedia."
"Put it on a promo card!"
Now if they were really smart, they'd have some kind of a contest where YOU could be the pilot on a promo card. Slap you in a Rebel or Imperial pilot suit, voila, you're the new Red Squadron pilot or whatever.

You wouldn't fly a Vader card of him flying in his x1 while blowing up Biggs and blasting Wedge? I would... That is what the season 1 game night stuff should have been. The over size ones are great and all, but they are hard to tote around with normal sized cards.
I was thinking more a burned, limbless Anakin Skywalker crawling out of the lava, but sure - I guess Vader flying his ship works, too. Takes all kinds.
Hmm mobile won't let me winky face.
I'm not advocating the "weighted" dice. I think it's a horrible idea to give them out as prizes, even if using them does cost you squadron points. But it got me wondering, if dice like this were readily available, how many points would that be worth to you, if, say, they had a blank face replaced by an extra hit or evade symbol? How many of your points would you be willing to sacrifice to use them? What if a blank was replaced even by an eye, thus making focus tokens better?
Honestly, I would run the other direction from that can of worms. You'll get someone trying to paint the uber-dice to look like regular ones so they can gain a sneaky advantage. All kinds of stuff.
Well changing one face on a 8 sider is a 12.5% increase in your chance of rolling that, be it a [hit] or [eye]. Myself I'm not sure I'd want to pay many points for that.
The problem is it doesn't scale with game size. IE.. you play a mega 300pt game that 5pts is amazing, at smaller sizes it gets progressively less. If it was a modification that effects a ship for 1 or 2 points I think it would be fine, Or if you paid a certain cost per 50pts in the game size.
Edited by Rodent MastermindSounds exactly the opposite of the Star Trek game from what I am hearing. I don't know about you, but I don't want to play a pick up game with someone who has special stuff no one else has because they won a tournament. Now, I know how that sounds, but considering the precedent set with WizKids clix stuff; I would rather avoid that altogether.
Wizkids feels the need to use tournament prizes to help sales and overcome their poor customer service and quality controll.

Who's to say you can only use one of the special dice?

That would be a balance issue, there isn't really anything wrong with different weighted dice in a game, Monsterpocalypse did it well.
The issue is that
- It has to be balanced. In other words correctly costed
- It should be an available option to all players. It can't be a dice that is only available if you do tournaments or buy it off line.
Wiz Kids don't seem to be doing either of these.
Yep, no appeal to me at all for the cards. But I would go for the faction dice as mentioned.
And that's just kind of the deal - the people who get it, want the cards and try hard to get them. They're also willing to overpay for them, so you see them pop up on eBay as the people who DON'T see their appeal try to make some easy bank off them. It's a weirdly symbiotic relationship.
Recently a custom Lando card was on sell on ebay and almost went to 80 bucks(not including shipping) for a GenCon exclusive card for the Falcon. Luckly I got a deal on the Wedge Antilles card and 5 Black Squadron cards. Here is the link to the Lando card.
Welp. It really is whatever people will pay for the cards. I don't get why you'd pay 65 for the same card, but hey...to each their own.
I might pay the $5 or whatever for Black Squad. Tempted to track down a Wedge because its a great pic, but wouldn't pay what a lot of people are asking.

I got Wedge and 5 black squadron pilots for 17.50 including shipping from a seller on the US ebay. So 17.50 the total cost divided by 6 cards I got, each card cost me about $2.90. Which is not bad deal. Was going to buy a Wedge card by itself but waited. Good thing I did.
That's not too bad. I know I wanted the Gencon Exclusive minis for Robotech....not at the prices I am seeing though.

I was thinking about buying them too but meh. I am a backer for the Robotech anyways. We get everything before they even start selling the expansions. So I am happy with that.
I missed out on it. For me, it is all about Macross. I like what you get in the starter box. It is really loaded up well. What I cannot wait to get are the Super Valkyries. Too bad they won't do the Strike. It wasn't in Robotech.
I got the gencon minis, I'm not terribly impressed. Max is twisted in a weird pose. I'm not sure what makes Miriya unique at all. Maybe a few extra bits. I'm glad I was able to have a friend pick them up at the normal price. They are not worth ebay prices.

edit: look what the forums do with a flickr link. Cool!
Edited by HexisThe Max Valkyrie is supposed to mimic one of the poses he made when fighting Mirya. It's supposed to be a bit more dynamic, same for the power armor. How much were they at Gencon?
And that is cool!
