I need a ship...

By Cilionelle, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey there.

Due to no fault of my character, our crew finds ourselves shipless and in need of transport off Vorzyd V. I will be able to get a loan of about 20,000c, and we'd like a ship that is primarily a transport, not a freighter, and preferably with Speed 3 or 4. What models can I be looking at? We have a party of five with a sixth soon to join.

I've also been through the Free Traders and Freebooters doc to pick something out, but nothing really fits. Crew of 1-2 with berths for the others in the crew would be excellent.

Help?

Cheers!

There's a ton of light freighters that fit the bill, but how are they different from a transport?

I think Cilionelle is looking for a shuttle, not a transport. Just enough room for people, not much room for "stuff."

Instead of taking a loan for 20k, why not just purchase transport off-planet? When you get somewhere else, you can easily find someone who'd be willing to "give you" a new ship (IE, take some Obligation). Or just take Obligation while on-planet.

I'm only suggesting this because there aren't any shuttles that I'm aware of. Well, there are two in Age of Rebellion, but they're both Imperial landing craft, so are decked out with weapons. If you want, we could probably make something up with what we have in AoR, and strip out the military hardware, bringing the price way down. That would also give it a few more HP to play around with.

The core book also has the Lambda-class long range shuttle. It is a lot more expensive than 20k (140,000 credits, to be exact) and holds 20 passengers. If the OP wants something smaller it looks like he'll have to invent it himself.

You're right, EldritchFire. I'm looking for something like the Firespray, but with a different shape. Actually, we could use the Firespray stats, sans weapons, and with "prisoner" capacity converted to "passenger" accommodation. We could even strip it of weapons to make it more "cost-effective".

Our crew is made up of a Marauder/Gadgeteer, an Assassin, a Scout, a Doctor/Assassin hybrid and a Force-Sensitive Outlaw Tech. We're not really into shipping and smuggling, so don't need the cargo space at this point, more just a shuttle with a hyperdrive and some comfortable berths.

I couldn't remember if the Lambda-class was in Edge or not, thanks.

If we start with that as a base, we can strip out all the military stuff and see where the price ends up.

Reduce the main hyperdrive to Class 2, and remove the forward laser cannons and aft blaster cannons. I don't have EotE (only the two beta books), so I don't know the prices of the weapons nor the HP requirements, but the upgraded hyperdrive attachments says 6,400CR and 1HP, so reduce the cost by that and free up one HP.

Could someone with the core book do the math and get a price/HP allotment, please?

EDIT: Looks like you found what you're looking for, so ignore this post :P

Second hand, a YT-1300 is about 25,000 to 30,000, so you might be able to find a 'fixer-upper' for 20k credits.

It costs more but a citadel cruiser could work.

It costs more but a citadel cruiser could work.

It costs more because it's a VERY capable starship. Other than a small cargo hold (it's primarily intended to be a cabin cruiser/passenger carrier), it has just about everything that PCs would want. It's certainly more of a high-end goal than something to toss to them while they're down on their luck.

Kappa Class Shuttle.

Older version of the current Imperial shuttles. Used for troop transport during the clone wars. Mostly retired or moved to garrison fleets on backwater planets as it's been replaced by the current shuttles.

Slower hyperdrives, but still a decent ship. I basically used the Lambda shuttle stats, but gave it more storage. Also stripped out all the seating and had it reconfigured as passenger vessel. A planetary govenor had modified it to be his own little pleasure yacht. So it has some rooms for the players, and a lot of cargo space.

It's an older ship, decomissioned from the Empire, and a little more unique than a YT1300.

Have you taken a look at the GSA's Equipment Labs entries?

There's a few entries that while labeled "freighters" are really more beefed-up shuttles.

Some examples:

The B-7 Light Freighter

The HWK-290 aka Moldy Crow (this version is different from JegerGryte's as I accounted for FFG's statement that the Lucasfilm archives pegged the ship as being much smaller than WotC figured

The YT-1760 (very llttle cargo space, but a lot faster and maneuverable than a YT-1300)

Phoenix Hawk Light Pinnace

This statement is very important -- it's deservedly "higher" Rarity and expensive because, as the description outright understates, "they are remarkably well armed for their role", yet legal. Wait, no, I'll go further: it's borderline a pirate flagship, it's already a "fighting ship" and if your players can do something about that Handling (though that's better than several of the transports) or that Speed 3... then it's even more versatile than the Skipray Blastboat!

I like the idea of the B-7, but it's only Speed 2. In other words, too slow. The YT-1760 might work. I'll let my GM know. I also like the idea of the Kappa-class shuttle. In fact, I redesigned the interior to something more like I was thinking...

What do you all think? Reasonable?
