Varikas The Dead- Heroic Feat on The Finale

By nhennsc, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Varikas is probably the best hero to have in a campaign because of his heroic feat that allows him to come back to life(full). On the Finale where it states that when a hero dies he doesn't revive, but Varikas does, and with 14 health so it is like having an extra hero on the last room.

Seems like Avric's feat could provide even more than 14 health if you had lots of heroes in the party.

"Any hero is defeated during this quest is slain and removed from the game permanently. This is the final battle!"

Varikas says he has to wait till his turn. He is no longer on the map TO have a turn. His heroic feat does not trigger. Sad face.

Kunzite is correct. Varikas' Heroic Feat reads:

Use at the start of your turn if you are knocked out. Recover all  and :fatigue:. You may still perform 2 actions this turn.

Being "knocked out" is a hero-specific consequence of being defeated. The quest modifies the hero-specific consequences of being defeated, so nobody is ever knocked out, which makes Varikas' heroic feat worthless in the Finale.

Same goes for heroes with feat like "when defeated, you can move, attack and then you're dead" ? (sorry not @home can't check name of heroes)

I believe that the move and attack would happen before the defeat, so would still be valid. Would have to read the specifics, though.

Except for the Finales in Labyrinth of Ruin where it states "Knocked out Heroes" in both. in one you have to knock out the hero, web him, then throw him in a pit to slay him and the other states that the OL gets a fatigue token for each knocked out hero at the end of his turn and when he gets 5 he wins.

Varikas the Dead stays dead in the Shadow Rune finale -- which is a darn shame -- but as long as he's not webbed in Labyrinth of Ruin, he can still

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE

because heroes that are KOed (but not webbed) in that finale can stand up or be revived. If webbed, Varikas would have to be freed first before he could

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE

...Okay, I'll stop doing that now. If I played him in an Epic play, you bet I'd be saying that each time I used his feat.

With classic, radio drama voice, I'm sure >D!

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE is said, in a loud and booming voice, at the start of the first level in the old Sega game Altered Beast .
