Hmmm. I think I may have misunderstood the gunner upgrade cards.

Does Gunner trigger after modifying dice results? I was thinking that it was used if you rolled all blanks or all eyeballs without any focus tokens; now I'm thinking that is wrong.

Nope. You completely resolve the first attack, all the way through spending tokens and removing shields/dealing damage cards. When the attack is complete, Gunner checks if shields have been removed or damage cards have been dealt. If yes, then the ship's turn is over. If not, then Gunner triggers and gives you a new attack.

Thus adding a cat-and-mouse meta-game: often the best thing for you to do when being attacked by a ship with Gunner is take 1 point (and 1 point only) of damage from the initial attack, if possible.

Based on only having one APT, I might give up deadeye, both shield upgrades and recon in favor of PtL and a gunner on Boba and VI and Saboteur on Kath, but that is just me, the squad as is will probably do well enough :-)

Well after figuring out how gunner works I took much of your advice for my sons list. It ended up something like this:

Boba Fett + Gunner + Shield Upgrade + PTL

Kath Scarlett + Gunner + Shield Upgrade + VI

I added the Shield Upgrades for my son because he is 8 and because he doesn't always do the best w/ figuring out how to use bombs/torps/missiles in game given what is usually a multi-step process. So for him a little added defense lets him fly in and blast away a little more.

He lost to a much more experienced player who was running 2 Bounty Hunters and Howl Runner, he won easily against a Lambda and Bomber that were loaded up then he lost to me and my Lando and Ibtisam list (which I wouldn't run again). He should have beat me but his skill at piloting his ships cost him the game. I was down to just 2 hull left on Lando and should have gone down.

I would say take Elusiveness off of Howl and put on either swarm tactics or Squad Leader. And this might work if you use the AP's to block Yorr and keep him more stationary to get more shots off. That's how I'm flying mine in the vassal tournament, and even though I'm 0-5 IRL with my Fettigator and Yorr combo, I'm 2-0 in the vassal tournament with it.

I'll have to try that out, however using elusinvess with Yorr has so far proved to be life saving.

To both hothie and macar if your dropping elusiveness then no need for yorr.

Might as well drop to a basic shuttle and free up some points

With 5 TIEs on the board? I disagree. 3 of them can K-turn, pass the stress of to yorr, and still take their actions. It acts as a sort of Adrenaline Rush for ships without an EPT slot. That can be a big difference.

My mistake, I often miss the subtler combo

I know this topic is old, but i wanted to share my experiences with my latest fettigator list. Yesterday i won a local tournament with this list.

Boba Fett with PTL, navigator and engine (49)

OGP with Fire Control System, Darth Vader and Gunner (31)

Scimitar Squadron + Cluster Missiles (20)

I read hothies post about having problems with bobas dice modification so I decided to go with ptl instead of eh. Also the shuttle was a good distraction in most games. It died nearly every game but also dealt a lot of damage. Vader, gunner, fcs is a crazy combo. The Bomber was never a interesting target and could use his rockets almost every game.

only 3 ships is hard for imperials but urs r all very durable.

interesting call on the bomber - someting ive seen in another thread about support ships for the shuttle+firespray squads

thata an intersting loadout on the shuttle actually - conventional wisdom suggest its needs Engine Upgrade to allow hit-and-run and better survivability to get out of rang of flankers.

imo if u opponents were targeting the shuttle early that was their mistake - playing against shuttle squads is kinda new for many people so they dont know how the best way to beat shuttle squads yet. Fett should have been their primary target early and low ps ships should have ganged up on him and at least tried to block him and deny actions from PTL.

i have been considering putting Vader crew on a shuttle with gunner but losing those extra points invested in a 'Doomed Shuttle' you know will likely die every game seems somewhat counterproductive - i guess it all comes down to how often u use it and how much damage it dishes out b4 it dies as to whether the gunner addition is worth it - i can see that having gunner + FCS + vader would be nasty though and i think u would only need 2 good attacks with it to inflict major damage (gunner means u get 3 EXTRA attacks which is like going...

attack > miss? ok use vader(1 damage) > gunner > Target Lock for free > attack > hit(1-3 dmg) > use vader again! (1 dmg most likely crit). Thats cost u 4 shields off the shuttle (1 shield and 5 hull left)

if they have no shields on the first attack u have just dealt a minimum of TWO crits or a maximum of TWO crits PLUS 3dmg! oh and some of that extra 3 dmg might have been crits too! Thats cost u 1 shield and 3 hull off the shuttle (2 hull left).

Thats at med range which is actually best imo as ur first attack u want to miss so u get the free target lock and free gunner attack

First game was against three interceptors (carnor jax, soontir and tur). It was allowed to use proxys so he had royal guard on each, the new targeting system modification and cloaking. Anyway after the second round soontir died and then it was only a matter of time with only two ships remaining.

Second game was against another fettigator, bounty hunter and 2 APs. This was a Mission (programming probes) and not a dogfight. So the focus was not on killing the other squad. Anyway i killed fett in the first round and so one of the biggest threats was eliminated. Lost the shuttle in the third round though.

Third game was a mission again (escort senator shuttle). This time against a falcon (Chewie) with two y-wings (each had ion cannon). The shuttle and the bomber did some decent damage against the y-wings. I hadn't the chance to target the falcon at first. Later i lost both shuttle and the bomber but had an untouched fett. Interesting was that i managed to kill the falcon in the end with no damage to fett. With ptl I always had focus + evade each round. In the past i had similar firespray - falcon duels but never won against the falcon.

The fourth game was a dogfight against four bombers (jonus + 3 scimitars). Each of the scimitars had APT. Two also had Assault missiles. The bombers flew in formation (2x2). I managed to fly with fett near them in the first round and flew past them in the next round to target them with his rear cannons. One round they tried to follow fett but didn't reach him. The shuttle and the bomber came slowly towards them. My oppenent didn't knew that the shuttle can stop and flew right in front of the shuttle and so i had a lot opportunities to shoot the bombers. In the end I only lost my bomber.

So I had luck with my opponents. No swarm or b-wing, hwk squads.

It is a list with strong first attacks. The shuttle is hard to fly without engine and rarely has the chance to shoot after the first rounds if your opponent flies well. But it is a good distraction and can hit very hard.
