My buddy go me hooked at a recent con and now that im back home i can't find pieces anywhere.
Any idea when the new wave of ships will be in stores?
They're apparently "on the boat," so estimates range from anywhere in September to early October. I heard they sold out of pretty much their entire first run (which they hauled to GenCon) and the second batch is on the way.
Do shops get replacements of the first waves of ships? I'd prefer not to pay over msrp on eBay. Is there any brick and mortar shops that have ships that may stock these besides local gaming shops. I spotted a starter at my booksamillion. I just need ships.
Target can carry some ships. Barnes and Noble often has ships. All shops do get new shipments of each wave, but they are often few and far between, because demand is so high.
Target - at least any Target I've ever seen - has starters only. Could just be the local ones.
When I was stocking up on wave 1-2 ships that everyone else was sold out of for a while there, B&N was my go-to. I hit half a dozen bookstores around my metro area grabbing the occasional A-Wing, Interceptor, etc. I'm concerned, though, because last time I looked I could no longer pull up the ships on their website to search for stock. Makes me think they might be not planning to continue stocking them.
I've got 2/1 of each reserved at one of my favorite local shops - 2 if they have them to spare, 1 of each if they get as few as they're concerned they might. I'm lucky to have a couple of really good game shops near me. You can also find some good deals on them through a number of websites once they're in stock (or you can preorder from them) and pay less than retail, breaking more or less even once you factor in possible shipping.
When you say "replacements of the first waves" I'm not sure if you mean more wave 3 ships once those arrive and quickly sell out, or if you mean more of the wave 1-2 ships.
I actually live not far from the big FFG event center, which has a nice shop inside, so I'm planning to stick my head in there this week just on the off off chance they brought any wave 3 schnibbles back from GenCon with them.

According to this:

some of the previous wave's ships are being reprinted right now. That means it will be a few months before we see them in stores.
There was just recently a big wave 2 restock that went out. Local game shops had loads of all the wave 2 ships for about three days and then it was all sold out again.
On the Sabacc Table Podcast posted today they interview Steve Horvath of FFG. He says that Wave 1 is being re-printed now and that Wave 3 should be in the stores "In the next few weeks". He also mentions that the X-Wing cards in the Rebel Transport WILL be usable in the normal dogfight version of X-Wing.

Of course they will! That way even people who don't want to use the Transport will be tempted to buy it, just for the new X-Wing paint job and the new pilots and cards. ![]()
It reminds me of the Warmachine Tactics Kickstarter that Privateer Press did recently. They have a new deck-building game coming out in the next week or so, and they threw in some special cards for that game as add-ons in the Kickstarter, not available anywhere else. And you had to pledge a certain level for the KS to qualify for any of the add-ons.
A lot of people got pretty bent out of shape, because they wanted the card game but not the video game, and resented being strong-armed into being forced to choose between missing out on cards or backing a game they didn't want. Call it what you will, but it's very clever marketing.
Throw in a few 'exclusives' like Porkins, a new paint job, whatever cards he comes with, make them usable in the main game but only bundle them with the pricey large Transport model, and if nothing else people will buy that, take out the stuff they want, and turn around and try to resell the transport.
Edited by CrookedWookieStop. If you are absolutely, positively so motivated to make the "best" list that you have to buy 4+ copies of every ship just for the upgrade cards, you really don't have a lot of reason to complain about buying one more ship.
How many people have multiple A-Wings and TIE Advanced, even though they rarely (if ever) play them? And they sure as hell don't play more than one of them.
The game is balanced well, there are no "must-have" ships or upgrades. The Gencon winner was pure Wave 1 for crying out loud. So if you want the big ships buy them, and if you want the cards buy them, but if you don't I am 100% confident that you can build a very competitive squad without including Jek Tono Porkins.
I would feel differently if FFG were like WotC or GW, who intentionally make each "new" release significantly more powerful and out of scale with the last one, so they can force their customers to keep buying all new cards/codeci/miniatures. FFG has done a great job of offering more options without putting people who stick to the older stuff at a disadvantage.
Sooner or later, when a company shows you a track record of treating its players well and providing new options without breaking their customers' bank accounts, that company should be given the benefit of the doubt. If the big ship/X-Wing expansion comes out and ramps up the power factor so that people are compelled to buy it, I will change my tune. But until then I am willing to put my worries in the backseat and assume the best, which is something I definitely would not be willing to do with certain other gaming companies.
I'm not actually sure who you were telling to stop, or thought was complaining. I certainly wasn't - I pointed out a lot of people have been complaining but that I admire the marketing strategy. And I definitely wasn't implying that Porkins (or anything else included) would be game breaking or unbalanced. My guess is he's going to be a decent ps7 Rebel pilot with a solid ability - nothing more, nothing less.
I just think it's clever marketing in the sense that obviously a game like this appeals to the 'collector bug' a lot of us have, and the thought that there is a ship or a pilot or an upgrade card out there they do not have is going to eat at a lot of people and drive them to buy a ship they otherwise might not. I don't think that's shady or underhanded, by any means - it's just sweetening the deal and giving people another reason to consider a purchase.
So I hope you weren't reading my comments as some kind of indictment of FFG - I love FFG. I love X-Wing. I respect any strategy that makes people who might otherwise write off a purchase give it a second thought instead - even if *those people* sometimes feel like they're being manipulated or taken advantage of. I'm not among their number. In fact I find it hilarious that a lot of people are just so OCD about collecting that the idea of a thing they might not have drives them to make a purchase they could have just spoken up by NOT opening their wallets for, then turn around and cast aspersions on the company that "forced them" into buying something.
I think Porkins will be interesting, I think the Transport will add a few interesting options, but I don't think it's "must have" in a competitive sense - just in a collectible sense, for a lot of players. I'm guilty of it myself - I own 2 Firesprays largely because I wanted more Stealth Devices, before 2-3 Firespray lists became popular. I blame no one but myself. ![]()
Sorry, the "stop" wasn't actually pointed at anyone in particular, and certainly not you, it is just a rhetorical device I used to refute the direction much of the posts seemed to be going in.
Yeah like I said - that stuff hits the collector gene in me, but I've got no problem with it. I think it's pretty canny business sense to do something like Porkins, etc, in with the transport, so long as its not some balance shattering thing. And I have no reason to believe it will be.
X-wing escort was a necessity for the transport as it doesn't do much, if anything at all, as a capital ship. But it does give FFG the excuse to drop more named x-wing pilots and that should make everyone a little happier.
Its a win-win scenario.
Amazon in the UK atleast says August 29..
Dont know how legit the date is though..
But i have put in an order so we will se. ^^
Thanks for all the great information. I am just going to have to wait. I get 3 of every fighter so that I can run attack waves in scenarios. I had only gotten 1 Tie Advanced because its generally thought of as just Darth Vader's pimped Tie. However I can now think of scenarios where it would be useful to have a squadron of them. I think I have 8 regular Ties and 6 X-Wings. I also picked up a bunch of Millenium Falcon models to go with my FFG one so I could do a Smugglers' Run scenario. This game is so much fun. Again thanks for the information.

My wife bought me a B-Wing off eBay, because she's awesome and loves me and knows that's my favorite ship. So I should have one of those for the end of the week. I've got 1 or 2 of all the other wave 3 stuff pre-ordered at my FLGS but even they don't have any concrete idea yet when that stuff will be in.
