I'm 99% sure Star Destroyer will be the Imp capital ship.

By Thunder_Chicken, in X-Wing

And quite correct, last I checked, an ISD in scale is 22ft.

I would love to see it as long as they kept it with their new new scale.....I honestly do nott see that happening because of cost and packaging ; nott to mention shipping the Brute lol.....You can never tell for sure untill FFG releases their next endeavor....Never give up,Never surrender

I also hope they don't do a Star Destroyer, for two reasons:

  • It would be stupid
  • I would buy it

well, what about something as simple as a system patrol craft. in the EU the empire has these ships to patrol systems (duh!) that are know for pirates and rebels. they varied in sizes but why not base the imp ship on that.

what i think we may get for the empire first though is a space station of some sort.

considering that the star destroyer is supposed to be so big that the blockade runner fits completely inside its underbelly docking bay, I can't imagine a way of scaling it so that it looks even remotely close to reasonable on the table. Even if they did make one that was sort of close to a reasonable visual scale, it would still be huge and prohibitively expensive, and it would be hard to make it play well. You don't put a star destroyer on the table, it IS the table.

Star Destroyers hold 48 TIE fighters alone, plus several squadrons of bombers and other spacecraft, plus a full complement of 20 AT-AT and 30 AT-ST walkers and other ground vehicles. Even in a theoretical cinematic campaign mode with higher point totals it is just completely outside the scope of the game

same

so if no star destroyer, why not make the other ships IN scale!!! they wouldn't be that much bigger.. yeah i know i keep repeating my self but whats 4 additional inches?

A call back the day after?

Back on topic, the only reasonable Star Destroyer at this scale would be a small section of the hull as a board edge. Here's an ISD at various scales:

1/270=19.5 feet

1/500=10.5 feet

1/1000=5.2 feet

1/2000=2 feet 7.5 inches

1/3000=1 foot 9 inches

1/4000=1 foot 3.75 inches

1/5000=1 foot and almost an inch

So to get an Imperial Star Destroyer at any size small enough for a tabletop you'd be looking at about 1/3000 at the largest. 1/5000 would be the most practical.

Now I could see them working on a game designed with capital ships in this scale and stands of tiny fighters. That'll prolly be an even bigger money pit than this game currently is. And I mean that in the best way, I'd blow way to much to do gigantic space battles.

My plan is to complain about the scale size and then buy three of them.

Any body have a table 100' long? I would love to play a Star Destroyer at scale!!!! But um err I don't have a table big enough! ALAS!!!! I have the Answer!!!! put legs on it and allow ships and asteroids to be under it we could have epic 3D battles around the Hulking Behemoth!!! and could even have a card for it's Tractor beam!!!! that would be epic!!! :D

Someone on another thread suggested the Vigil, and I heartily agree. It "feels" very Imperial, gives the flavor/look of a Star Destroyer, but is also small enough to be included in X-Wing without requiring thousands of dollars and a basketball court to play on.

It does open the door perhaps to a second game dealing with much larger ships and fleets... although the scale was totally out of whack with WoTC's version of it a couple years back. Even so, handling scale with things the size of Star Destroyers is difficult. I for one hope that the only Star Destroyer model(s) I see would be part of a fleet battles type game. Even then, a ship like the Executor would be excessively large (110cm - 3' 7") even if the Imperial Star Destroyers were a modest 10cm (4") long. The CR90 would be impractically small at just 1cm (0.45") long.

I'm not sure how the scale would work even on a "big scale" game.

As for an Imperial "Big" I've mentioned before that the CR90 was used by both Imperial and Rebel Fleets... but it would be nice to get an Imperial "Big" that has the more characteristic wedge shape... which perhaps makes the lesser-known Vigil corvette more likely?

Would love to see the Vigil as well or something similar in scale. Love bascially all of Ansel Hsiao's original designs. I think he really "gets" what imperial ships should look like.

Please no Star Destroyers in X-Wing as the scale difference would be too much. Remember, at the beginning of Ep. 4, they were able to dock the Tantive IV in the belly docking bay of the Star Destroyer. Even at the scale of the Tantive IV that FFG's producing, it would be WAY too big and WAY too expensive for the game.

I'll ***** and moan like everyone else and then still buy one

A model of the Vigil would be cool - it looks like a baby SD

while a model star destroyer is kinda cool, wouldn't it be cooler to have what's basically fan-art become a legitimate part of star-wars?

Sure, it's in a few snapshots of the essential guide to warfare, but Fractalsponge's work has mostly been in the background. Putting the vigil in here would give it a lot more character, and I think that's awesome.

This is literally my reason for agreeing with you.

as much as a huge ship would be amazing unfortunately I think we are looking at a smaller size. hopefully we are wrong though.

Are those capital ships from the old Star Wars miniatures game?

Only the ISDs, the SSD, and the Interdictor. The other capital ships are some very nice looking customs!

I'd love a good SSD model. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though, so if there is any odd sculpt or miscasting, I usually get miffed.

hmm perhaps they could sell body kits that you could mount on you car..lol and the whole game could be played in an empty parking lot!!! lol in the NEW EPIC PARKING LOT format!!!

You could use pop bottle rockets for proton torpedoes.

Probably hit about the same amount too.

NOW I understand why Target offers X-Wing!

Nailed it.
