Mono Tactics - Killer Support Deck

By sapender, in Strategy and deck-building

I've been playing with a mono tactics support deck that absolutely destroys all enemies...

Mono Tactics doesn't get much love because it's not really playable solo... I say who cares... tactics is so fun as a killing machine accompanying any mediocre quest and threat management deck...

Here's what I have... please feel free to critique... (credit should go to Rich Sabre since he posted almost an identical "fighting deck" a while back)...

Heroes:

Beorn

Hama

Legolas

Allies (20)

3x Trollshaw Scout

3x Eagles of Misty Mountains

3x Watcher of the Bruinen

3x Winged Guardian

3x Gandalf (Core)

2x Bofur

3x Vassal of the Wind Lord

Events (18)

3x Foe-Hammer

3x Hands Upon the Bow

3x Feint

3x Thicket of Spears

3x Goblin Cleaver

3x Quick Strike

Attachments (12)

3x Support of the eagles

2x Blade of Gondolin

2x Great Yew Bow

2x Rivendell Bow

i was just about to comment saying i had made a similar deck then seen your credit- thanks ;)

i agree with you, this type of deck is pure killing power. usually adding another player (or just deck in my two handed play) makes the encounter deck add 1 more card per turn which obviously counteracts the extra player. but in this case you just draw the extra enemies into the deck which can block easily...it pretty much makes no difference to the deck, meaning the other deck is free to quest and so on

i think these heroes are made for this deck - they all bring key elements. hama recyling, beorn sentinel for the overspill enemies to the other deck and legolas to kill those enemies with ranged

I played a similar deck with a friend last week. It did great but it was our first time playing through The Redhorn Gate. Suffice to say my team decided to pack it up and go home in Stage three lol. Outside that quest they did quite well.

I like splashing in some Leadership with Prince Imrahil, who is strong and works great with the disappearing eagles. But I have definitely considered a mono red deck instead. The biggest difference with a deck with a splash of purple is not being able to use Thicket of Spears or Trained for War. I've personally found very little need for Faint, though, so I can't see myself needing Thicket of Spears, except maybe for early in Massing at Osgiliath. I've also found Sneak Attacking Gandalf to be extremely useful with any other form of threat reduction.

Interesting... I find Feint and Thicket of Spears are the backbone of all good mono tactics decks...

I'm also learning to let go of Feint. Instead, I rely on Beregond with Gondorian Shield. That way, you can just let the attacks resolve and you can simply defend them. It makes it easier to focus Hama's power on cards like Foe-Hammer and Hands Upon the Bow.
