Game Master's Screen Contents

By OverMatt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy the Game Master's Screen and I wanted some imput from those who already have it.

What tables, reference charts, and such, specifically, are printed inside of it? The product descripton doesn't give any indication.

Do you find that it generally covers all of the things you would need to reference during a game, or do you still need to consult the book regularly to look up various tables, combat modifiers, or what have you that the screen doesn't include?

It is an amazing resource, I lay it flat on the table so everyone can read it and use it regularly. Nearly every chart used during a the game is in there. Even lists of weapon and armor qualities.

It is in small print so it can be a bit hard to read at certain angles, but I LOVE it. It was well worth the money.

It lists the symbols and dice

Spending advantages, triumphs, threat and despair in combat

Difficulty levels

Attack Difficulties

Ranged difficulty modifiers

Ranged and Melee Weapons

Weapon qualities

Character and Vehicle critical injuries

Actions and maneuvers

Armor

Silhoutte comparison

Damage control difficulty

Medical Check difficulty

I'd have liked a list of skills, but no room for that.

Also, it has 30 pages of a very nice adventure and information on nemesis and how to level them.

If you intend to run the game in any serious manner, I'd pick it up.

Okay, sounds good.

Thanks for the list of contents, that was very thorough.

It's surprisingly useful. Even as a player I tend to keep one close at hand for reference.

one of the best screens I've bought.

one of the best screens I've bought.

It IS the best screen I have ever owned. The thing is bound like a hardcover. not some flimsy posterboard thing.

Seriously, I have paid a lot more for crappier screens before... not to mention it comes with an adventure for $20?

I agree, its a pretty darn useful and well made screen. I would have liked the font to be a little bigger but over all it's good.

I'm curious as to what the GM screens for AoR and FaD will be like, hopefully the same but with slightly bigger font.

I was thinking about it too. What's on the eoe screen that will not be on the aor screen. I think I'll only pick up another screen if there is a module with it.

Honestly worth it just for the combat Advantage/Threat tables, the Weapon tables, and the Crit tables.

It's amazing. Usually GM Screen are dull (ie WFRP3's GM screen) but there it's just perfect.

My favorite parts of it are:

A table for using Advantages and Threats (what to do for 1 adv, for 2 adv, etc)

A discription of all weapon qualities like pierce, vicious, cumbersome. Always looking that stuff up.

A list of all weapons, their damage, crit rating, range, number of hardpoints, and their price. Love this table

A table that lists difficulty for the various range bands

The entire d100 crit table

That's what I use the most and have found invaluable. There are tables on there for ship combat, which I haven't had to consult yet, so I can't give you details on how useful they are.

The quality is good, too. Very thick, sturdy cardboard with a nice texture and artwork on the front.

The GM screen also comes with an adventure. Buy it.

Very good screen.

I would have liked it even more if the 4 panels were horizontally oriented, but you can file that one under personal preference. It feels a little cramped if you're keeping an opened adventure booklet behind the screen.

I would also have liked for it to show social interaction opposed skills as I'm still not sure which to use after all that time. Easily fixed with a post-it note.

I would make 2 changes to it if I could. I wish it had a table for movement costs between the different range bands. I have trouble commiting that to memory (1 maneuver from short-to-medium, etc).

Also, there's a weapons table that lists all the damage, crit, range, and price. But the armor table doesn't list price, only defense, hardpoints, etc.
