Ramifications for failing an Influence Test

By seanpp, in Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta

So page 233 says, " When an Acolyte fails an Influence test by more degrees of failure than his Fellowship bonus, his Influence bonus decreases by 1 ."

His Influence bonus decreases by 1? Influence Bonus isn't even used in acquisition. So is this a strange way of saying he loses 10 Influence? Surely not, that's way too steep.

Who can tell me what this means?

I'd like to think it must be an error but it could mean decrease their characteristic by ten. That's pretty cruel though, even by my standards.

Personally, I think there are some big problems with the Influence system, namely that it only makes sense in certain campaign set ups. I would actually be far more in favour of making it a characteristic that you bought up like any other with a variable XP cost based on Role, just like the rest. If I wanted to then have in-game adjustments based on PC actions, I could apply modifiers as needed within that particular adventure.
