Complaint about FFG and UFS

By Kyle Edwards, in UFS Rules Q & A

What I have is a complaint, as well as some constructive critisism. I would like you to know that I wish for this game to grow and prosper and only want to improve it.

My background: I am a competitive Magic: The Gathering Player. Have been for a few years and plan to continue to be in the future. However I wouldn't mind playing another game on the side as well, hopefully at the competitive level as well. I believe FFG has alot they can learn from Wizards of the Coast.

Complaint: Your website needs alot of work and tournament documents are hard to find.

Proposal: Improve your website by having one area where any information can be found about Formats, Banned Cards, Upcomming Tournaments. I cannot find this information anywhere in what I consider to be an official source. When I say official source, I mean a webpage on FFG dedicated to that. I should not have to hunt down an old announcment, the info should be clear and easily acessable. Have you noticed how many questions there are regarding formats and banned lists? This is due to the lack of information. Currently, I have found no official information on the website about formats and legal cards. The Forums is no place for official announcments and doccuments. I should not have to vist the forums to get information. If it weren't for the forums, I wouldn't even know there were formats, however I am still confused as to what those formats cpnsist of. I do not want a forums member to tell me what sets are legal. What I do want is a link to the official source, a forums member or moderator should not be an offical source. I do not trust this system.

“I am a Rules Arbiter - per the description of this forum - my answers on rules are official.

I took the exisiting list, found in the tournament rules, added all of the cards that have been banned since then, announced in the various official announcements known as "State of the Game" Announcements, and posted them in a collected post.

I have posted this list as a convenience so that players can find it easily, since I field the question of ‘what cards are banned’ at least once a day.”

Where is the Organized Play section on the website?

I hope that those with the ability to change the system and manage the website would do so, it is very frustrating and I am going to move on if FFG dosn't change the way they do things. This game is 3 years old and games that are months old, such as EPIC, are doing a better job about getting information to the players. I have many other complaints, but this one takes precedence in my opinion.

Thank you,

Kyle Edwards

sorry, wrong forum for this. you most likely wont get any resolution here

1) Taken from the following Link http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=9&esem=3

We unfortunately do not have time to devote to answering production questions on forums, and request that such inquiries be handled by emailing us directly.

If you have other FFG-related questions, please submit them here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/contact.html

2) I respect that you don't have time to read a bunch of forum posts. You shouldn't be expected to, and yes, the information you are asking should be posted directly on the main site. I 100% agree with you. Currently, the tournament rules are in the middle of being updated. Rather then posting an incomplete document, they are on target to be completed before the new base set releases April 8th.

Before that time an update tournament rules document will be posted. I apologize if this bothers you, but at this time, it's the best I've got.

I have to post this about once every few days as well.

3) Organized play site is found on the support Tab. The same place where you found the Tournament rules. On the right hand side of the page it says "Organized Play" in Big letters. It's a hyperlink that will take you directly the the op site. That same hyperlink is also duplicated on the Community Tab. For future reference, here is the URL:
http://app.fantasyflightgames.com/orgplay/admin/login.jsp

4) What formats exist?

There are 2:

Standard (Cards that are rotational within the current block) (very much like Magic's Type II)
Legacy (Cards from all sets are legal, unless those cards are on the banned list) (Very similar to Magic's Type I)

Standard is currently comprised of cards that have the 3 and 4 pointed star watermarked in the text box.

Here is a card with a three pointed star:

070.jpg And a card with a 4 pointed star: 009.jpg

If you have an objection to what I'm writing, and would like to report it to FFG, at the bottom of every message, there is a blue link entitled "Report to Moderator."
For this message that you are currently reading, the link is:
http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_reportar.asp?efid=30&efcid=5&efidt=94770&efidm=94849

For my previous message that you have objected to, the link is:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_reportar.asp?efid=30&efcid=5&efidt=93844&efidm=94616

I agree with all of your concerns. So... to help get the information directly to FFG, I will be hitting the report to moderator button. Because otherwise, forum posts, especially in the Rules Q&A Section are not handled by FFG, they're handled by Tag, GouHadou, and Myself. Korrin is currently on a bit of a sabbatical.

Hopefully come April 8th when all of this information is posted you will find it to your liking.

What is Block 3 then?

4 shuriken, and i "think" 5 shuriken.

People say we don't have all of block 3 yet, which makes me think the new set coming out (with 5pt shuriken) is included in block 3.

Before February 2008 all cards were legal in all formats except for banned cards.

Post February 2008 all non-character cards without a shuriken watermark were moved to the Legacy format (Think Type 1 Magic).

Throughout 2008 character cards without the shuriken rotated to Legacy according to a set schedule with each set's publication.

Post April 2009 ALL cards including characters without the 4-point shuriken or the new 5-point shuriken will be moved to the Legacy format.

After this new set comes out, only cards with the 4-point shuriken and the new 5 point shuriken will be legal in Block 3 tournaments.

Block 3 is a fantasy format that many folks choose to play. It provides a more limited card pool then the standard environment.

Players playing in a "block 3" environment only use cards with a 4 pointed star.

Block 3 also involves Fairies, Unicorns, and Dryads.

lol hope i am not confusing you. i am jk. its just that whole "fantasy format" thing made me lol

what these guys are trying to say is: block 3 begins when set 12 is released.

a lot of impatient people have jumped to playing the format without the base set (in fact, many started at a time when only 2 sets were legal.... )
