What hurts Koth?

By AltWren, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My group is on hiatus for the end of summer currently, but I've been trying to strategize how to handle this kill Koth scenario I'm about to go into. He sure has high HP and defense for lowly zombies to chip away at. I was planning to use Barghests to howl at him for some more damage, but a thread on BGG says that isn't viable because apparently only zombies can hurt him now (the rules say only zombies can attack him, but somehow this means no howling either.) Also out is my plan of blasting party members near him during the escape, since that's not directly attacking him and it seems the Fire Breath also doesn't work.

I saw another thread here recommending a Word of Misery / Frenzy combo. Would that even work? Word of Misery isn't a zombie, so I'm not sure it would affect Koth. What about Pit Trap then? It's not a zombie either, but if Word of Misery works... Exploding Runes?

I managed to kill him with just 2 zombies.

(Encounter 1 was utter fail. I raised only 1 zombie on my first 5 tries.)

I didn't assume Word of Misery wouldn't work.

It's an after effect of an attack, which could be made only with zombies.

Good thinking also about Barghests. They should work. However, Koth's willpower ir 4...

For me all went down to last roll - had frenzy, critical strike e.t.c.

Managed to do exactly the damage needed.

Was lucky, that it took Heroes 3 turns, I think, to kill Shadow Dragon - lots of misses. Got so desperate, that they had a friendly kill to switch places.

After that had web traps and other traps to slow them down to the crawl till they got to altar.

Master Beastman is my newest thought. Command. Let's double up those attacks per round.

Remember to keep him Immobilized with the Master Zombie's Grab ability.
