Playing Shadow Vault...

By sador42, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My gaming group is going to be playing Shadow Vault this weekend.

I am the Overlord.

You know why we are playing Shadow Vault, so the Heroes have been doing pretty well against me - I am probably going to win Masquerade Ball before we start Shadow Vault (I have a stacked Overlord hand from Masquerade Ball Part 1, 2 Dashes and I can go through all but the last door for free, no rolls), so I will have won 1 quest of the ones we played so far.

My reason for this post:

1. What are some of the better Open Group monsters I should use for Shadow Vault?

2. What general strategies should I implement?

I know these are broad questions, but I could use some advice, I'd like to come out on top with another artifact.

Thanks guys!

Has anyone played Shadow Vault recently?

1. I chose Ettins (good armor), Dragons (good armor) and goblin archers (dont get blocked). They turned out like this: Ettins - slow but useful in my caravan/river's edge ambush. Dragons - very good for blocking their movement. Goblin archers - useless.

In rematch I would choose some monsters with immobilize in place of goblins. And they will anyway kill one dragon per turn at least so that is where your reinforcements are going.

2. Strike in river's edge, kill the carrier or you wont have a chance.

Or if you failed try to block the stream, handy when dragons spawn near. Let them drop to waterfall and you are done.

In hindsight a red dragon blocking the exit would have helped, though then they could have run thorought the whole map at once... so figure it out some way.

Caravan/rivers edge, strean (and exit) are places you want to fight. And kill Baron in turnly basis, it isn't bad before the stream.
