Exp points.

I am a little confused. Let me know if I am correct. After each quest everyone including the OL gets a exp. point plus what the quest gives out? We were not playing that way but we were recently told at Gen-Con that is how it was intended. Just wondering if everyone is playing that way?

This is correct. Most quest say "win or loss, each hero and overlord gains one exp." and then it goes into the win prizes. There are a number of times the only other reward is the Overlord gains an extra exp., giving him a total of two exp for the quest, while quest prizes for heroes are often gold along with the exp. That becomes VERY important.

Let me be a little more specific. We were told it like this. According to the rules in the book everyone gets 1 exp. then you read the quest rewards if it says everyone gets an exp. and the overlord gets one for winning then you would reward everyone 2 exp. and the overlord 1 extra one? This is were our confusion was came about we were only giving what the quest said.

No. You get what is listed in Receive Rewards for the quest. No one receives any 'extra' experience listed there. The only thing worth mention is the Reward section often says "All players get 1 XP." This includes both heroes and Overlords. I assume whomever told you otherwise at GenCon misunderstood some part of the question.

Some quests do reward the winning OL with XP in addition to the usual 1XP - perhaps seeing one being played led to the confusion between specific rewards and the general rule about rewards :

- A Fat Goblin, Castle Daerion, Enduring the Elements, The Ritual of Shadows : If the overlord wins, he receives 1 additional XP .

- The Frozen Spire, Blood of Heroes, The Twin Idols, The Wyrm turns, The Wyrm rises : If the overlord wins, he receives 2 additional XP .

This is a pretty common confusion. Here's clarification based on the rulebook:

I believe this commonly comes from having read this section and forgetting the parts in parentheses:

p. 20. "The Campaign Phase" ... 3. Receive Rewards: The overlord player and hero players each receive one experience point, regardless of who won the quest (as listed in the Quest Guide). Record this on the Campaign sheet. The winner of the quest receives additional rewards as noted in the Quest Guide.

So, what's happening is they read "Each player gets 1 XP + Whatever the quest guide says" which can be confusing. But the important part is that the "1 XP per player" is specifically mentioned as ALSO being listed in the quest guide. This is to give you a heads up that everyone will be progressing in the game, win or lose. Note that when using the side-quests, they DO NOT list 1 XP per player, and that is intended. Those quests are only for treasure / relics.

Oh my God me and my friends were in error, we gain 2 exp point for each quest (1 as listed in the quest guide and 1 as listed at pg.20 of the rulebook)

It's wrong?

But now I have a question... if the heroes gets only 1 XP per quest, they arrive at the final quest of the campaing with (more or less) 8 EXP points... so they can buy only 3-4 abilities and not all the abilities available for their class! it's correct?

You only get 1 XP per quest (some quests grant an additional XP to the winner,) that is correct. I think heroes can get a maximum of 12 XP in "The Shadow Rune," (I may be wrong) but you definitely can't get 15, the number of points of skills every class has.

You are not supposed to fully level up your class- most classes have multiple "trees" (informally, there is no limit to how you purchase skills.) There are multiple ways to play each class, and you can buy skills which benefit your style of play.

Very important note- if you're playing with only 2 hero "people" but 4 hero characters, there are still "4 hero players." It's stated in the rules that each hero (and the OL) counts as a player, even if there aren't that many real, physical people playing the game.
