Gain the advantage and Master Pilot

So, currently there are two interpretations of Gain the Advantage (GtA). One where the benefits are applied only the pilot, which is RAW and seems like RAI. The other is more lenient and applies the benefits of gta to the gunners aboard the starship also.

Now, a few months ago I asked the question about whether the benefits of GtA would apply to the gunners the same round as the pilot succeeded on a GtA check, or if they too had to wait to the following round. I was then made aware of the wording of the rules which indicates that the benefits are for the pilot only.

Now I look at the Master Pilot talent, which basically allows the pilot to take 2 strain and perform GtA (or any other action) as a manoeuvre... now the wording of the Action says next round, but of course this is because its an Action and barring this talent, some mercenary soldier talent, there are very few ways of performing two Actions in a round, and the Master Pilot really only downgrades an Action to a manoeuvre, so not really the same.

Still, would you allow a pilot to take 2 strain, perform GtA as a manoeuvre, then use the Action for an attack and gaining the benefits of GtA within the same round?

After looking at Master Pilot and GtA, I would say yes. It's a powerful combination, sure, but the pilot has to make a Pilot roll which means that all sorts of interesting things can happen. And there's always the option of throwing in a Dark side Destiny point to upgrade the difficulty...

And they don't call it "Master Pilot" for nothing. If someone is that dedicated to piloting, they're going to be really good at it :P

I'd say yes. This is when somebody who's really dedicated points to the pilot tree can begin to shine.

I just realised last night... the Master Pilot talent... it lets a Pilot attack twice in combat!

It lets the Pilot perform any Action as a manoeuvre, as long as the Pilot is piloting a starship.

Looking up under Actions in the Combat chapter this type of ability was mentioned, and yes, a starship attack would become a Manoeuvre, and therefore count as a Manoeuvre and not count against the one Action max per turn ... which would be devastating in conjunction with Field Commander [improved] and a Triumph - if said Action from Field Commander [improved] does not count against the maximum of 1 per turn. It doesn't specify, but I think that is the intention, right? The would potentially give a pilot 3 Actions in a turn, for 3 strain... that's potentially 3 attacks, or 1 GtA and 2 attacks... of course, this is "high level" play, but still. That's kind of crazy.

I love it!

sounds like a tallon roll to me.
