How about a Wave 4 completely uninformed speculation thread

By SheepDog, in X-Wing

I think we are going to a push for more torpedoes, missiles, and adding rockets. I think the new tech they will add is the tractor beams to imperials. Ion torpedoes and proton rockets.

13-14 point z95 headhunter w missle upgrade. Cheap missle spam

A large base rebel ship my best guess is the outrider since it is in the original trilogy extended edition and its the most famous rebel small ship left and has a great pilot and title upgrade available. I know it's another yt variet but it can have Different options. Then The falcon.

Gunboat- the imperial tractor beam upgrade ship and possible 360 turret

Tie defender or phantom- the defender is either a better tie advanced with missles and torpedoes or the phantom is a harder to hit fighter either way they are both power ships.

To be honest, I've never been crazy about the E-Wing, but if the model looks like those, I could get used to it. Those pictures are pretty sharp.

Another take on the E-Wing, although I assume FFG is unlikely to use it:

Lady Luck looks like a clown car. I understand its story significance but the design is awful.

VT-49 Decimator? Okay, but lose the R2-D2 bridge dome... somehow.

The Outrider/YT-2400 is SO PROMINENTLY FEATURED in so many of the Edge of the Empire source imagery (Core Book, Game Master Screen Supplement, Beyond the Rim expansion) I think it is a lock. I would bet my ship on it. And I can't wait!

Yeah. I don't think the Sorosuub Luxury Yacht would make a great ship in a dogfight scenario, even Lando's. The Decimator, though? That ship is 100% awesome. I loved mine in SWG.

I'd really like to see stuff like the Scyk and other neutral fighters from JTL in mini form for this game. But, I think that would kind of necessitate a third faction. I'm all for that third faction, really, but I'm not sure FFG would be.

TIE Defender

Z-95 Headhunter

YT-2400 "Outrider"

Skipray Blast Boat

any or all would make my day

I think it's distinct enough from the YT-1300; smaller and arranged differently. The commonality could be explained by same manufacturer/series.

It's also technically in the film canon now—brief cameo in Episode IV special edition, departing from Mos Eisley.

If this happens, I'm going to continue referring to Rebel large ships as "Rebellion Pancakes". I want variety, and the Baudo is a nice aversion to yet another flying saucer from CEC.

It's more than ugly, it's ungainly.

What? The Tri-lateral symmetry makes this one of the prettiest fighters in Star Wars! If you want Ugly find the TIE Oppressor. No TIE looks more cobbled together and haphazard than that one.

I can't take the VT-49 seriously with that R2 dome topside. I don't think the Empire should have direct analogues to rebel ships either... if you want an Imperial Transport, we have the lambda now.

I think it might just be me but i don't want the Z-95. I think the Z-95 wouldn't be a good ship because it doesn't bring anything unique to the table. Rebels also don't need a spammy ship. Each faction should feel unique and not just have different looking variants of the same ships. E-wing and another freighter for sure. Maybe the Outrider or possibly something like it without the 360 arc. Even with 360 though it could be made into a unique ship. I would love to fly the Falcon alongside the Outrider. Would be so badass. For Imperial i would say tie Phantom. Its unique enough to be another tie and not be like every other one. Plus it looks unique as well. The defender would be a good option if the phantom doesn't work. For large imperial ships i would do something like IG-2000 or another large bounty hunter ship. Would be cool to have a diverse fleet of bounty hunter ships or if you play epic maybe a team of bounty hunter all piloting different ships and they need to disable, dock and capture someone aboard a Corellian Corvette. If i had it perfect i would say a wave of only large ships. Get IG-2000 and Hounds Tooth released next to the Outrider and maybe something like the Pulsar Skate. Even the e-wing might begin to feel redundant with the b-wing and the x-wing already released but i could be wrong i don't know the fluff behind that ship. Anyways i say wave 4 is a big 4

My money is on wave 4 being repaints of existing ships with new pilots.

The game is set at the time of the original movies, ffg picked the obscure mouldy crow over more obvious new republic ships just to stay in this time period. jumping forward to a less well known period, as well as realeasing a full EU wave would be risky, or seen as such by people holding the purse strings.

We're more likely to see prequel ships than EU; arc170, V-wing, j-type skiff, jedi starfighters.

Going by the lack of prequel content in the LCG, RPG and X-wing, I don't think FFG wants to touch the prequels with a ten foot pole. I personally would much rather see EU stuff instead of prequel. I think the people holding the purse strings realise that many of the consumers of these products aren't very much interested in prequel stuff.

The Moldy Crow isn't *that* obscure. For players of Dark Forces, which were many back in the day, it was the ship that always came in to save your hide after the end of a long mission battling whatever the Empire decided to throw at you. I was head over heals for it to be included with this release.

Plus, there are plenty of other EU ships in this era. Off the top of my head, R-41 Starchaser, Razor Fighter, Cloakshape Fighter, Planetary Fighter, Authority IRD, and plenty more are in this era. And most Star Wars fans I am friends with know of these ships, or at least have heard of them.

My money is on more ships from the original line of X-wing games. I'm thinking the YT-2000 will be a prominant addition eventually, because of its central role in X-wing: Alliance.

Which is why my money is on repaints.

I guess a lot rides on how the hwk sells as to the future of EU releases.

I've enjoyed the books and comics but the ship designs I've seen are of mixed quality.

The crow is obscure, it was in two PC games in the 90s. it doesn't compare to x-wings/tie fighters that are easily recognized by most people, even non-fans.

I think we'll see waves that are repaints mixed with EU Ships, NOT waves of all new EU ships. This will keep people buying the ships they are used to but also not bet the whole wave on EU. I agree that a lot will have to do with how well the HWK sells, sadly making the HWK a little on the weaker side will probably result in lower sales for it anyhow (but having one in my hands now, it is a gorgeous model).

I see future waves as something like:

Wave 4:

Y-Wing (Gray Squadron Colors)

Z-95

Tie Interceptor (Saber Squadron Markings)

Skipray Blastboat

Wave 5:

A-Wing (Green or Blue Markings)

YT-2400

TIE Defender

TIE Fighter (Blue Version)

Wave 6:

Rebel Lambda Shuttle (Tyderium, Maybe Rebel insignia on the upper wing)

E-Wing

Assault Gunboat (Xg-1 Star Wing)

Firespray (New Paint job, maybe Jango colors?)

Wave 7: New ships from Episode 7

JJ's re-imagined Falcon tops the list...

A mix of new and old models would be very plausible.

With all the ships from the original trilogy now represented we are definitely at a turning point for the game's development. 'Star Wars: Rebels' will be bringing us new ships with Lucasfilm cannon credibility, maybe that's the way ffg will go.

Rebels might be a great way to go. The Ghost looks great so far, I'm sure we'll see some great ships come out of the show. Let's just hope the show is good!

Ghost does look good!

I'm looking forward to Rebels; I have faith in Filoni - he gets Star Wars, maybe better than Lucas.

I agree with the above list. I am expecting the new wave to introduce tractor beams and jamming beams, Ion torpedoes and possibly proton rockets.

The designers already stated they wanted to introduce a way to have a 2 seater Y wing varient. Maybe finally one with pilot skill upgrades.

The Z 95 is not just a tie clone or weak x wing. Its a way to prominently introduce cheap missile spam ships and push torpedoes/missles

I'm not sure on the interceptor the red marking would be cool but many of the named pilots were already made but its still likely.

The skipray is perfect for a small/medium ship to include an ion cannon and tractor beam on the imperials. But the assault or missle gunboats are both useful as well.

I am also expecting at least 1 360 turret imperial ship at some point I just don't know what.

I think the Skipray will have a 360 degree turret upgrade on it, should they make it. It would be a great addition, imo.

I am hugely interested in prequel era ships. I can understand not wanting it to cross-pollinate with the OT games, but there is a market for it. Star Wars Rebels is going to blur those lines even further.

And if that is the case, that a separate prequel game is made, there's no need to disparage those (allegedly few) of us that are interested.

My best friend plays Imp, but he's even said that if they release a YT-2400 he'll buy one to put on his shelf lol

Agreed. I love the look of the TIE Defender. One of my favs.

I had not heard of the Crow until it was annouced for wave 3. Only hardcore computer gamers requinized it and don't even get me started on the scale thing. It seems to me that FFG had a particular set of requirements for a ship and then they searched until thay found one that fit the build. Wave 4 could be all over the place with them trying to fill particular roles required in the game.
