WAVE 3 - Fun Squad Build Ideas

By MantoF18, in X-Wing

Hi Everyone,

Wave 3 is out and I thought it would be fun to hear other players Ideas for Squad Builds.

I'd like to share:

Rigga Bam Boo! 100 pts

Garven Dreis - X-Wing

Arvel Crynyd - A-Wing

"Dutch" Vander - Y-Wing

Ibtisam - B-Wing

Aww yea A B X Y, the Iconic Rebel fighters are all there! Red Leader, Gold Leader, Green Leader and Blue Leader (I think), all the Squadron Leaders in one squad. Comes in at exactly 100 points... coincidence?, I think not. You get 4 nice pilot abilities, Garven and Dutch are handing out actions, and everyone is pilot skill 6, meaning it will be easy to fly together and utilize your special abilities. Imagine Arvel bumping into an enemy and then your Garven and Dutch hooking him up with a focus & target lock, BAM! Ibtisam is a great addition she can pretty much handle herself, but extra action from her friends will allow her to "buttonhook" on a 2 without missing out on any attack power. Also I can't find a weakness. As someone flying against it, I wouldn't know who to target first. Probably Garven because his has a 3 attack and the fewest hit points but it's a toss up; and the Squad will function just fine without Garven. Finally many different ship types might keep your opponent guessing, its just harder to keep track of four different maneuver sets.

So probably built more for theme then competition; I still see a lot of merits to this squad and can't wait to fly it!

PS: I named the Squad "Rigga Bam Boo" after a camp song; the chorus sings "It's Red and Gold and Purple too...That's why it's CALLED! ... a Rigga Bam Boo" and yes I know green+blue don't make purple... but I digress...

There are too many ideas in my head - and it will be hard to pick a favorite till i've flown some - but I think a good one will be..

Red Squadron X-wing + R2 (x2)

Dagger Squadron B-wing + FCS (x2)

Everyone moves on 4 - and it's 4 ship rebels....

Kyle Jatarn w/blaster turret, recon specialist and moldy crow title is quickly becoming my favorite support ship!!

Right now I'm wondering about what to escort two Bombers, perhaps Jonus 22 + torp (4), Gamma (18) + advanced torp (5) = 49.

Could use 4 academies and throw in a seismic charge, but with the pilot skills it would become a question of who's escorting whom.

2 interceptors without stealth devices, say a Fell with PTL and an Avenger squadron might present an attractive enough target to force a tough choice in who to attack first.

A Firespray with an HLC could benefit from Jonus and again or potentially get out ahead and do some blocking.

Any of these seem like viable strategies? Manto, that sounds like a lot of fun! My one worry is about Dutch without an ion turret. Maybe I'm too conditioned into thinking that Y-wings are useless without them and if he hangs back just a little he might get some decent harassing fire in?

Here's one I worked up. Not sure it's optimal yet, but worth a flight I guess.

"Winchester, Winchester, RTB."
100 points
Pilots
------
Boba Fett (53)
Firespray-31 (39), Concussion Missiles (4), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Deadeye (1), Recon Specialist (3), Slave-1 (0)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (27)
TIE Bomber (16), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Assault Missiles (5)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (20)
TIE Bomber (16), Concussion Missiles (4)

The Wingman

Jan Ors

Veteran Instincts, Blaster Turret, Recon Specialist, Moldy Crow, Shield upgrade

Ten Numb

Fire Control Systems, Heavy Laser Cannon, Advanced Proton Torpedoes x2, Veteran Instincts, Shield Upgrade

97 Points

It's Funny Because it's powerful

6 Attack APT and FCS so you can focus to get those hits. Can you imagine taking out a falcon in 3 hits? (possibly two turns)

Ten Numb (42)

B-Wing (31), Fire-Control System (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Proton Torpedoes (4), Veteran Instincts (1)

Kyle Katarn (28)

HWK-290 (21), Blaster Turret (4), Recon Specialist (3)

Biggs Darklighter (30)

X-Wing (25), R5 Astromech (1), Shield Upgrade (4)

Basic Imperial Shuttle w/anti-pursuit lasers and fire control (x4), 100 points.

I bought 5 TIE Bombers so I could try this:

5X Gamma Squadron Pilot + Seismic Charge

Or,

5X Scimitar Squadron Pilot + a combo of Seismic Charge and Advanced Proton Torpedoes

Not sure how competitive it will be, but boy will it be fun to play (at least until I run out of secondary weapons, and maybe longer if they manage to do some damage).

Basic Imperial Shuttle w/anti-pursuit lasers and fire control (x4), 100 points.

This looks like fun, too (though I only preordered two IS at this time).

Doublenot - The Shuttle is really hard to fly, I'm not sure four of them would work out so well, but hey it's 40 hit points!

macar - Very fun, I'd love to see someone fly "The Wingman", maybe swap out Jan for Wedge and have two great shooters.

The Kestrel - I like your Focus Flow And Deadly Foes squad; Biggs will keep Ten alive long enough to actually use the Torps.

El_Tonio - The Bomber is really great, I think we will see lots of Bomber swarms.

Fun ideas everyone, keep them coming!

Kyle Jatarn w/blaster turret, recon specialist and moldy crow title is quickly becoming my favorite support ship!!

Same here. Toying with a list that involves that HWK-290 set up and a Y-Wing with a Blaster Turret. Just need to decide on the third ship.

I never said 4 shuttles would be easy, but priceless when you see your opponents face!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Blue Leader was Merrick Sims (AKA Rookie One from Rebel Assault). Ten Numb was the ranking survivor of Blue Squadron after Endor. As for Ibtisam, she was with Blue squadron at Endor as one of the 9 B-Wing pilots. (Blue Squadron was made up of 9 B-Wings and 3 A-Wings.)

Edited by Silver Crane

Thanks for the correction Silver Crane. Think they will come out with Merrick Sims? if so what ship would he fly?

It's possible we could see a B-Wing or X-Wing. I wouldn't mind seeing Tycho in an X-Wing too since that's where he spent most of his time.

Blue Squadron

99 p.

3x Blue Squadron Pilot (22) + Fire Control System (2) + Ion Cannon (3) + APT (6)

I haven't test it yet but here is how I imagine that: you fire ion cannons at range 2-3 to disable enemy starfighters. You get target lock for FCS. In the following turn you move into range 1 and fire APT's.

Kyle Jatarn w/blaster turret, recon specialist and moldy crow title is quickly becoming my favorite support ship!!

I have to agree - it's pricey, but Kyle with the turret, RecSpec, and Crow is awesome. Give him PTL to (double) focus AND target lock his turret shots? Good times.

I like all the 6's

Garven, Dutch and Ibitsam, load out to be decided (maybe an HWK-290 in place of Garven)

Or

All the 8's

Luke, Tycho and Ten, load out to be decided.

The idea is I can perform moves, actions etc in any order I see fit. With the sixes, that's got some real possibilities.

Same here. Toying with a list that involves that HWK-290 set up and a Y-Wing with a Blaster Turret. Just need to decide on the third ship.

I'm going to be running this list tonight:

29 Wedge

6 Advanced Proton Torpedoes

23 Dutch

6 Advanced Proton Torpedoes

5 Ion Cannon Turret

21 Kyle Katarn

4 Blaster Turret

3 Moldy Crow

3 Recon Specialist

---

I'm considering pulling Moldy Crow and replacing the Ion Cannon Turret with another Blaster Turret to make room for either an Engine Upgrade or astromech for Wedge.

I'm wondering about one that can "pass the puck" around. Namely using Garven, Kyle w/ the Crow, Recon Specialist, and Blaster Turret, plus a hitter like one of the B-Wings or X-Wings or maybe Dutch. I don't recall all the specifics and upgrades.

Here Kyle could quickly, and pretty easily, amass a number of Focus tokens both through his own use and getting them passed over from Garven. Even if Garven isn't taking a Focus Action Kyle could pass one over to him and the Garven could spend it and give it right back to Kyle assuming he's close enough. The third leg can vary to offer a number of different options.
