Tantive IV and Rebel Transport (FFG Article)

By Deltmi, in X-Wing

I am more interested in having Leia as a pilot, surely we can also hope for C3-PO to make an appearance, presumably as a "crew" card as he is more into "human cyborg relations" than a backseater droid!

"Assemble the fleet?"

As an Imperial, I haven't been given a fleet to assemble - just TIEs and a shuttle. The Firespray doesn't count - it's bounty hunters and we don't need their scum.

"Imperials, watch the Rebel fleet assemble - and then attack with your TIEs!"

I'd really prefer to just buy an x-wing to get new x-wing pilots. But a pretty transport model and a linked campaign may make it worthwhile. It really depends on the exchange rate. A British pound is allegedly worth more than a single US dollar; but a lot of geek parafanalia seems to be priced the same in dollars and pounds. Someone mentioned $60 for the transport set, £60 is more than I'd be willing to pay. I have family commitments and a wife who doesn't fully apprecate the value of 'spaceships on sticks'...

I guess that these huge ships will move just using the front large base only so will behave like a Falcon or Slave but with moves limited to 1 straight or 1 bank, possible a straight 2 (red). The 2 different large bases could be targeted as normal but may have separate location results (rear more likely to cause engine damage). If this is the case then I think this could work nicely.

From the high quality Xwing photo it appears I was wrong about it being an R5. I might mod one of mine, should just be able to file an R2 down...

I will be profoundly dissapointed if there is not a ·C3PO crew card named "Telling the odds"

i want atleast 3 of each, i am gonna be very poor next year :P

Didn't porkins die at Yavin?

My tip would be Tycho Celchu in an X-Wing though.

I will probably buy the medium transport only for the cards too. And put thr ship on the shelf for decoration.

yes, this would be cool to have a 3PO card that gives you rerolls or somthing like that

Didn't porkins die at Yavin?

Yep... But that makes me hope they put in am Extended universe pilot since tgey don't stick to the timeline anyway... If Jek was dead at hoth and comes in aHoth expansion. Why not put in Corran Horn or someone else that came much later.

what about Fel as a rogue?

it happened

But then you'd potentially have Fel (imp) vs. Fel (rebel) and thus shattering the time-space continum...

Did anyone else notice this?

Designed for use in Cinematic Play and the new Epic tournament format, the Tantive IV miniature doesn’t match the 1/270 scale shared by those starships legal within the game’s standard tournament format. Instead, this carefully detailed and pre-painted miniature is sculpted at a relative scale that feels good on the tabletop, alongside the game's starfighters and other huge ships.

Other huge ships, huh? Are they hinting at more? I would assume they have something big in the works for the Imperial side.

If they keep making Huge ships (e.g. star destroyer, mon calamari, etc.) this game will need to be played on a basketball court!

Epic!

I say unleash the Dogs of war and take no prisoners.....Bring on the Imperial fleet and let the onslaught begin....Never give up , Never surrender

1. So Cinematic mode sounds REALLY REALLY awesome.. 2. After watching Family Guy's Star Wars I can only imagine their Porkins now and I think his Hull should be 1 and his power should be Something is wrong here (ideas on what the ability is feel free) 3. Nice shot Janson!

But really, I think we will see a ground assault coming soon. I realize that this is X-Wing, but It is hard to have a star wars ship game and not think about snow speeders against AT-AT's and AT-ST's.

And I think a Star Destroyer is in the future, but unfortunately it will need to be larger than the Tantive which will make the price like 150-200. Maybe not, but I think a Star Destroyer is a lot more iconic in terms of ship battles then the Tantive, at the very least it is its equal.

...and figure out some way to get my employer to give me a sizeable raise. Just sayin'....

Agreed with the frustration that you're expected to buy an expensive element in what's already a rich man's game just to get new cards. I've read complaints from people that WizKids is making stuff like this part of a tournament structure for their Star Trek equivalent, but at least people have the means to get something like a Nor-class space station without having to shell out $60-90 in hard cash if they want to try. And people who don't want it don't have to fool with it. If I want the X-wing alternate and the cards, I've no other choice. Very disappointing, but I have a low opinion of FFG's marketing strategy anyway. The "living" game concept is an ultimately self-defeating one. Great games, but just poor marketing approach.

Didn't porkins die at Yavin?

So did Biggs

Or both. Tycho and Corran in the X-Wing would make me a very happy camper.

While the Rebel transport is only legal in the game’s Cinematic Play and Epic tournament formats, the rest of the expansion is likely to make its impact upon the standard game with five different upgrade options, a new X-wing miniature, and four new X-wing pilots, including Jek Porkins and Rebel ace Wes Janson.

My heart sank a little when i read this. Don't get me wrong, these huge ships look awesome and i am totally psyched that they are being released. But i probably won't buy one (at least not anytime soon). I simply don't get to play enough or for long enough chucks of time to fit in Epic or cinematic battles. But i really want these other X-wing pilots and upgrades. Am i to be penalized for not wanting to shell out $60 for a single x-wing and related cards (and a nice rebel transport ship that will get stuck in my closet)? Back in my single days i would have blown the money and stuck that beautiful ship up as decoration in my room. I would have taken it off that shelf daily to gawk at it if i didn't have the time to play. But these toys don't really go with the way my wife has decorated. "Honey that is a lovely candle, but you know what would look better on that shelf..."

I really hope FFG will release these pilots/upgrades as a stand alone expansion, but i fear that will not be the case.

Rant is over now. Carry on with the lovefest for these awesome ships :)

So... buy one, take out what you want and sell the rest on Ebay. I don't need/want mutiple sets of identical cards, but I will want more than one transport.

Taking a pretty big potentially cost-prohibitive risk with that route. Let's say you spend $65 with tax on the ship, and then you keep the X-wing, the cards, and the base and templates that come with it. What's the transport alone worth? Let's be conservative and say $30 (more likely a transport alone will go for $20-25). Then you have to subtract Ebay and Paypal fees from what you get, and hope you make it up on shipping/handling costs. So basically you paid $35-40 for a $15 fig.

I had a large post written and then decided I'd just say I agree and say this will most likely drop me out of the game unless the actual release shows me how they can have a warship effectively maneuvering in combat on 1's and 2's. Any faster and they will be out maneuvering fighters and I can't see forking out $60+ for a fancy objective marker...

I am hoping they have something to make large ships actually usable and they put out a Imperial that isn't ridiculously oversized at $100+. Star Destroyers are completely out with the Tantive being so large…

Didn't porkins die at Yavin?

Come on, guys, spoiler alert!

I would guess the Imperial's will get the Star Destroyer, otherwise how could we recreate the hoth escape?
