First Experiences with DS Hoth

By magni2, in Star Wars: The Card Game

played a few match ups last night experimenting with the new DS hoth pods. With LS playing Evacuation in Seluth, and Speeders its pretty much a no go. Blow up anything and they bounce stuff its really quite the liability, i found i did not mind vaders fist the risk was worth the reward and in my troopers deck bouncing some one did not bother me as bad.

I have 2 different decks I want to try with Vader's Fist. First is just splashing it with Sith control. The other deck is a pure card advantage deck:

Vader's Fist x2

The General's Imperative x2

Counsel of the Sith x2

Killing Cold x2

Recon Mission x1

Something else x1 (probably either Vader or emperor).

Maybe if DS starts with all Hoth objectives they can shut down speeders' mechanics of Hoth Operations and Attack Pattern Delta. If speeders can't spam the board early and have to actually fight to win an edge battle DS might be able to stay ahead of the curve. I used to think starting with two copies of Attack Pattern Delta was just more opportunities for fizzled reactions, but holy crap can it run away with the game in! But if you're running Hoth objectives as DS to try to turn off these engines then you're giving LS offensive power with Prepare for Evacuation.

Personally I'm looking at Force Shockwave as a way of dealing with the LS swarm. DS Hoth objectives seem too risky right now.

I'm not sure that starting with 3 Hoth objectives as DS is a reliable way to deal with the Speeder decks, since most will realize at deck construction that this could be an issue and thusly run Sensors are Placed as well (if they werent already). Turn 1 Echo Base solves the issue and the Echo Defenders are nothing to sneer at when they have 4 guns and a tactic with so much Edge[1] floating around. It helps to slow them down a bit early maybe, but only really Navy can go mostly Hoth without too much issue, and even then I'm a bit skeptical about its viability.

dbmeboy, I see what you are trying to do, but I expect the basic Sith/Navy with Fist will work better. The other list you have has strong objectives, but the deck itself doesnt appear to have a whole lot of synergy. YMMV of course, just looking at it on paper, have not tried it myself.

Yeah, the Vader's Fist splash would be in the traditional Sith/Something control. The other deck is more a thought experiment than a serious deck, what could you do with a deck built entirely around card advantage? The answer is probably something like "be obnoxious, and then lose."

"be obnoxious, and then lose."

Sounds more like scum to me! ZIIINGG
