Am I Missing Something or Did FFG Make a Huge Mistake?

By BillyBabel, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Ok I was reading over splig's LT stuff and it specifically says this

"the Splig Lieutenant Pack offers a range of Splig-inspired tactics. Spirited Retreat , for example, helps monsters with the Wilderness trait (such as goblins) either swarm the heroes or escape en masse"

Splig is the goblin king, and it seems like his stuff would be focused on helping out goblin minions, but non of the goblins have the wilderness trait. Goblin archer has the cave and building trait and goblin witcher has the building and cursed trait.

Spiders are the only small monster that have the wilderness trait. So does that make splig the spider king?

In the base game, Barghests and Merriods have the Wilderness ("tree") trait too.

With the Conversion Kit, Manticores, Razorwings, Giants and Beastmen also have Wilderness traits.

I presume that you are referring to a description of Splig's pack?

So it perhaps is not an error at the level of the rules.

Otherwise, including the goblin archers among the monsters with the Wilderness trait would lead me to guess that, as it would be strange not to include the goblin archers as influenced by the King of Goblins, I would presume that another trait than Wilderness is meant here.

If you stumbled upon the actual rule (did you attend Gencon?), it would be a nice idea to contact FFG.

I hope they catch that before it hits print. Many of the small creatures are in building, curse and civilized (though there are some large ones in those groups, but not like Mountain, wilderness and water). If they want to buff goblins then they will have to use building and not wilderness.

yeah and the thing is, it's listed on all of his cards for the promo material, so hopefully they haven't started printing it yet.

Alright, I have heard a but about Gencon. Did FFG do any previews or receive things early?

No I didn't attend gencon, I'm referring to this page here http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_npm_sec.asp?eidm=203&esem=1&epmi=s

It specifically says that splig's abilities will apply to goblins

"the Plot deck included in the Splig Lieutenant Pack offers a range of Splig-inspired tactics. Spirited Retreat , for example, helps monsters with the Wilderness trait (such as goblins) either swarm the heroes or escape en masse. Similarly, Dive into Cover helps ensure that even if a hero manages one good strike against a monster, he won’t easily manage a second. And for overlords who prefer to stand and fight, Overfed turns all Wilderness monsters into plump little versions of their leader: portly and stout, but slow to escape."

All the cards listed use the wilderness qualifier and the description says it will work on goblins, so that is why I'm saying it seems like FFg has made a huge mistake unless they add some kind of modifier that now makes all goblins wilderness.

Yes. I now see : on the cards displayed, the mention "Wilderness" is there.

I does look like an error.

Let's hope they can stop the printing process before it is too late...

I sent a message to FFG general support, does anyone know of a better place to reach them?

I'm not familiar with the lore of this game but it does say Goblin Uprising. Goblins and spiders, Barghest can't uprise together? Splig himself buffs goblins(because he's a Goblin), and other cards seem to help all wilderness monsters (including goblins).

Can't really see all the cards print text.

The sentence on FFG's page is : " Spirited Retreat, for example, helps monsters with the Wilderness trait ( such as goblins ) either swarm the heroes or escape en masse."

The problem is that goblins don't have the Wilderness trait.

Maybe a card gives the goblins that trait? I don't know x.x

lol, really fun, and good catch.

My opinion is that the cards are early ones, with bugs, and just an announcement. So, it's not ready, and i'm a bit afraid it would be in late and maybe not this year, but more january (for the worst).

Or, maybe a FAQ will correct this, or a card, or something. A card saying "all goblins have the wilderness trait add to their normales traits" for exemple.

But, for sure, the "king of all goblins" being the "king of spiders and beastmen" is really funny enough !

looks like it far from being ready, I will have to take my evil in patience !

Adam Sadler came in and responded to this, apparently there will be a card that makes the goblins wilderness.
