Using sounds in your Edge of the Empire games

By cogollo, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just a tip for those of you who may be interested.

I like using sounds+music during my sessions, and I found a couple very nice Star Wars sound boards for my Android tablet... They are nice if you don't overuse the sounds... Just one or two here and there to better describe the situation (for example, I used some Gamorrean and Tuskan sounds today).

For those interested, just look for Star Wars soundboards with your tablets; most of them are free (with ads) but they can be purchased ad-free for very little. The ones I'm using are called Star Wars Sound sets) and are quite useful.

I would suggest the actual soundboards on starwars.com. There are a LOT of them and they work very well in games.

No ads, no purchases.

fantastic. I've played some music tracks before (cantina), but never occured to me to use a sfx sound board. Will definitely check this out.

I have sounds as "Stabs" to signal certain things. I cannot really describe what each part is without sounding rediculous, but they are all recognisable pieces of the soundtrack. Each is about 15 seconds long.

Here is my sound list:

Main Theme (of course)

Roll Initiative

End Combat

Triumph Rolled

Despair Rolled

Transition (used like a screen wipe to change scenes)

End Session

I would suggest the actual soundboards on starwars.com. There are a LOT of them and they work very well in games.

No ads, no purchases.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I'll place it directly in my favorites...

Always better than ads or purchases indeed.

Here's the direct link to what FG is referring too, it's pretty awesome...

Great site, thanks a lot for sharing...

My only problem at the moment is that sometimes I don't have access to Internet with my tablet (yes, I know, strange but there are still places in the world with no free wifi) so for those times I'm out of wifi I'll keep using the tablet app.

Anyway, using sounds in the games can really add a lot of flavour and fun to the story so I'd recommend any interested GM to try it out.

Awesome resource, will use when GMing.

Sound effects work great! I like to dedicate a specific blaster sound for each of the PC's that i will play when its their turn in combat.
