Two Rebel capital ships and none for the Empire!?!?!

By Stormtrooper721, in X-Wing

Seems a bit unfair for Rebels to get both capital ships. An Imperial Customs Corvette or Lancer Frigate would have been appreciated at the very least.

Can anyone think of other Imperial ships of this size that FFG could give to the Imperials?

I'll start a list and add the suggestions of others:

1. Imperial Customs Corvette (a common RPG encounter)

2. Star Galleon (great for Rebels raiding Imperial convoy scenarios)

3. IPV-1 System patrol craft

The following are suggested but would be too big and would have to be much reduced in scale:

1. Vigil

2. Lancer Frigate (anti-fighter)

3. Tartan Cuiser (anti-fighter)

4. Nebulan-B Frigate

5. Interdictor Cruiser

6. Broadside Cruiser

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet. Its quite possible these just happened to be the only ones they had prototypes ready to show in time for GenCon. I'd be very surprised if these two ships were the entirety of "Tsunami 1".

Tartan cruiser

Yes, one sided releases seem to limit the capital ship battle potential. I can't see FFG skipping that for round one. I bet we either see the Empire counterparts at the release or in the very next tsunami at the latest.

I am so pumped about the decision to expand in this direction. This will really make the Edge of Empire game a lot more fun to play in addition to straight X-Wing.

Oh, but the cost of it all... I'm in a catch 22. If I take a second job, I won't have time to use all these shiny new ships. :(

I'm pretty sure we will see some cap ships for the IMperials soon enough. To be honest, the Corvette could be Imperial too.

Star Galleon is one of my favs for Rebels attacking Imperial convoy scenarios:

Lancer and Tartan are both much larger than the Corvette, twice the size.

IPV-1 System patrol craft on the other hand would be perfect for the smaller Imperial capital slot. Maybe do the Assassin class Modified Corvette for the larger ship, to keep parity with the rebel corvette?

Seconded the IPV-1. Same size as the CR-90.

What about the Vigil, it's a bit longer than the the CR-90, but not by a huge amount, about 30% bigger. But it does have that classic Imperial look that you want out of your big Imperial ship

The IPV-1 does look like a reasonable match for the CR-90. But is it iconic enough to represent the X-Wing line? The corvette and transport they did pick to make are from memorable scenes from the movies. I suppose we did get the Moldy Crow, but that wasn't until wave 3.

Oh, I really like this idea.

like i suggested in the Wave 4 thread, the Interdictor Cruiser. and it could have an area affect on all ships

According to Wookiepedia Vigil was 100m longer than CR-90 (just like Lancer and Tartan). But it surely looks very "imperial".

Ah yep, I misrembered the CR-90s length as 190 rather than 150.. Saying that I think it's just about usuable, it doesn't have the bulky engines of the CR-90.. so I don't know if it has a huge amount more volume

It's closer to the Nebulon B than the CR-90. They'd really have to flub the scale. Although it looks like it could easily be in the 150-200m range, and the only official source for length was the author's Tumblr page--in the errata. I can't say I'd mind seeing it scaled down closer to the Corvette.

You're definitely right about the classic Imperial look.

I totally agree.

Assuming you're referring the smaller Immobilizer-418 and not the Interdictor ISD, that is still 600m and unlikely to make it into this game. Such an incredible ship, though. Always thought it was one of the best EU ships to compliment film canon.

All factors considered, I think it's super-unlikely we'll be without an Imp counterpart.

I'm really digging the idea of a System Patrol Craft. It's the perfect size! Okay, so it doesn't look very Imperial at first glance. Perhaps the could tweak the design a bit? The Vigil-class corvette is also a great suggestion.

The broadside cruiser is kind of big, but it has a bit more of the Imperial look than the patrol craft, and it actually looks pretty similar to the Imperial Customs Corvette.

I don't know; I'm just brainstorming with you.

I am in the process of a minor conversion of a Kenner Star Destroyer to be a Vigil. It will be a about the same size as the CR-90 but will suffice until we get official ships. :-)

Wookipedia has the Vigil at 255m compared to the CR-90 at 150m, for what that is worth. It'd be big. But man would it be cool. I'm not to keen on having ships that are too big, as the sliding scale would really start to show at that point. Or my gaming room would have to give way to a gaming facility. Besides, I don't want to lose the focus of the fighter vs. aspect of the game. So these corvettes are quite adequate. Even though rebel squads and a YT-1300 did end up destroying the Death Star...

I'm still for the really big capital ships (or sections of them) being represented by Playmats with some added goodies such as turrets towers and other important features that would deal out damage or get targeted in the game as pieces. Star Destroyer? Three 3' x 3' mats ought to just about cover it. And even though it wouldn't be as cool as the models that several folks have already produced, it'd be flat, which would make game play a bit easier, and when I'm done I could roll the mats up and go home with them.

But, I jump the gun. I think I need to see what FFG came up with play-wise for the CR-90 and transport (and whatever else they may have under wraps right now), before I get too carried away. The game has been excellent for play value so far, and I have high hopes that these larger ships will continue in that same tradition.

Rebels don't get a large ship in wave 3. Just how it goes.

My theroy behind this is that right now Imps have a huge advantage on the higher point range. If you field 200 (or even 300) points of tie fighters, there is no balance. Im looking for some kind of barrage fire or something from these large ships that can offset the swarms and make it an even playing field. atleast Im hoping that they are raising the point total and give me a use for all these spare tie fighters I have.

I have to say, the Vigil is close enough to the right size and it certainly looks Imperial. I would definitely second that suggestion.

I realize it's listed as a rebel ship, but the CR90 was in service in both Rebel and Imperial service. I would be curious if the rules indicate an ability to have it available to both sides.
