Boosting B-Wing Blitz!

By Qapla187, in X-Wing

So here is an interesting squad. Comes in at a total of 99 points:

Ibtisam (48)
B-Wing (28), Fire-Control System (2), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Proton Torpedoes (4), Push the Limit (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Ten Numb (51)
B-Wing (31), Sensor Jammer (4), Autoblaster (5), Proton Torpedoes (4), Push the Limit (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Now you may be thinking "Only 2 ships, are you crazy?". Well that's neither here nor there. I can say this will not be a list for the faint of heart. It is a very offensive minded list and requires very careful maneuvering with a dash of luck with your opponent NOT being in the way. PTL allowing you to both Boost and Barrel Roll should allow you to get out of most sticky situations. Kath maybe a threat, but here our lone Defense Die actually helps us. Providing she doesn't roll ALL Crits. Or maybe the Range 3 shot through an asteroid.

I've done a pratice round with just Ibti vs an Int and 2 TIEs. Only change was Advancing the Proton. The TIEs didn't manage to get through the shields, the B/BR combo really shined. The only problems I had was collisions causing action loss. Not having the ability to get out of fire arcs or Range 1 *shudder* really is bad. Another thing to keep in mind is when to stress for the extra action and when not. Again this needs very strong maneuver skills.

One thing I was looking at was to drop the HLC for an Ion Cannon on Ibti. The extra points it frees up could be a 3rd Proton, or 2 Advanced. The Ion would be useful for plotting Torpedoes, which then next turn you can PTL for TL/Focus to make it really hurt. Those Adv Protons need the focus like Porkins needed to pull up.

Well guys pick the hell outta the list and let's see how it holds up to some testing. I think it could be very strong in the right hands vs the right lists, but I doubt it'll be able to survive in the competitive scene.

I would suggest you to drop protons on Ibtisam, bc i can't actually think of situation when you will want to use them over HLC, assuming that you will focus, that one crit per protons won't give you much.

You said that you tried ibtisam vs 3 imps, and it was ok , but i think in 100p battle it wouldn't be so cool, bc when you ran her vs 3 imps only 3 imps could shoot at her and when you face 100p imp squad you must assume that there will be 5 imps or more focusing one ship. I mean she is 6 PS and 8 hp overall and 1 agi, so its not hard to think of imp squad that would be higher PS and had enough firepower to shoot her down before she even has a chance to fire. In that situation you would loose 1 b-wing in 1st round and then most likely another one in next round. Imo B's are just to weak to go only 2. I know that you are thinking of outmaneuvering your opponent and it may actually work, but don't forget that he has his own strategy that may be easier to execute, so he may actually end up winning bc he had easier job.

What i am trying to say is that going with 2 guys armed to teeth is not actually as cool as it may look, i would suggest you to pick Ibtisam or Ten Numb, drop a bit of upgrades and then exchange the other guy for 2- 3 b-wings or other wings.

You know what's funny? I was pondering last night about my own 2-ship build, and trying to talk myself out of it, but I just couldn't. I think that you have some interesting ideas here, and I strongly encourage you to test it out and give us a report (or two or three) either here or in the Battle Reports section. Very eager to hear how this goes (in a couple months when we actually get the ships).

I agree with Azzarro that Ibtisam doesn't need the Proton Torpedoes because she has the Heavy Laser Cannon. And because of Ten's ability, I would just move the Proton Torpedoes onto him. The problem is that it unbalances the two, so Ten will be a bigger target because he costs more points. I'm trying to think of a way to equalize it, but that may not be necessary -- Ten may be the big target no matter what. Then again, the Heavy Laser Cannon on Ibtisam may be the equalizer. I wouldn't trade it out for an Ion Cannon until you've tried it this way first. If you find yourself wishing you could set up shots better then I would try it.

I'm a little puzzled by your choice in system upgrades. What is your rationale for Fire-Control System on Ibtisam and Sensor Jammer on Ten Numb? Wouldn't they both be good with Fire-Control System? Or is Ibtisam going to be the main hunter of large ships, allowing for reliable use of that upgrade (because you can shoot them again and again)? Or better yet, you have a cost 4 and a cost 2 upgrade -- why not change them both to Advanced Sensors so that you never have to worry about collisions denying you actions? I guess this can get tricky with Push The Limit, but at first glance it seems like the way to go.
