Card Storage (album?)

By mazz0, in X-Wing

I'm planning on taking my cards out of my foam to make room for Wave 3 (seems like a waste storing cards in foam), so I need a new way of storing the cards (they're all in sleeves, by the way).

I'm thinking an album, so you can flip through them easily, pulling out the ones you fancy, building a squad in a more fun, physical way than on your computer. I thought three albums, one for each faction and one for upgrade cards.

So, two questions:

1) Anyone see a problem with this idea, or just rave a better idea?

2) Suggestions for the kinds of albums to get? Would need two that take pilot cards in sleeves, and one that takes upgrade cards in sleeves. I'm interested in quality, leather would be nice. Maybe a blue and a red?

Suggestions for token storage would be welcome too! I'd like to have just my ships in the foam.

i use a collectable card folder to store my pilot cards. it has standrd sleeve pages that u would typically use for a collectable cardgame like magic the gathering. wrks well. my tokens r a shambles tho... need to sift thru and take out the ones i never use. these are stored in a fishing tackle box (clear plastic).

The album is not an all bad idea, but as a person who plays the star wars miniatures game I can tell you that as time goes on the binders get awful bulky. I started with a single binder. now have four 3 1/2" binders full not counting all the boxes of cards that i didn't need to be able to see(stormtrooper multiples, rebel troopers, etc. that you only need one copy of). I have been using deck boxes and for the tokens I use a couple of Plano clear tackle boxes. they also required very little modification to make places for upgrade cards. The Plano 3600 boxes are the ones I use, I bought a large tackle box that holds four of these cases and the top opens with room to hold all movement templates, deck boxes, dice, etc. the boxes also hold all ships so far quite nicely including YT & Firespray. I figured the shuttle could go up top and I would be set....until I saw the new releases.

I have two rulebooks that I made myself, taking the text from the Official Rulebook and adding the rules from all the expansions, in binders with baseball card sleeve pages behind them. This way, I have one book for the Rebels and one for the Imperials, each with all the relevant cards. It works out pretty nice.

Thanks guys :)

Yeah, I have the KR Multicase which is a Phenomenal product. But I need space for the new ships too.

I still advocate for keeping the cards in the same cases as my minis. With a good sorting technique - keeping cards in stacks is far more space and time efficient, even for browsing. Prefab binders mean lots of changing cards out with each new release, and a 3-ring binder with sleeves is a lot of space.

I currently have three Plano tackle boxes (what I'm going to do about the Lambda shuttle is still TBD*): one for Rebel ships and cards, one for Imperial ships and cards, and the third with tokens, templates, bases and the common/upgrade cards. Then, I have a shoe box top to carry my 'active' squad. The three cases fit just fine in a shoulder/messenger bag. Adding a binder would just be one more thing to keep track of, and not to mention the extra wear of taking cards in/out constantly. Plus, this setup is readily expandable and customized on all fronts. With each new wave, I can use the dividers to reorganize as necessary rather than just patchwork adding containers.

After years of playing Magic and D&D/Star Wars Minis - I always found that I was the most comfortable with compactness. The more random boxes, binders, and storage stuff I had lying around just made me nervous. I know too many people whom have had stuff stolen because of carelessness or trying to keep track of too much stuff.

*I have a few Ultrapro CCG cases that might be just the right size for the Lambda and a few stacks of cards... still waiting to get my hands on a shuttle to see what is necessary. I should be able to just pare down my token box as I still just have everything in there. I can remove the excess stuff and maybe have room for the extra larges.

I prefer to keep my cards in sleeves rather than albums. It keeps them protected when I'm actually using them for a game, makes it easier to shuffle the damage deck, and I can easily stow the full size cards in any standard sized deck box. The only thing I can't seem to find is a deck box for the euro sized cards.

i've been thinking on how to integrate the new rules with the old ones and keep them together in my Plano double sided box... now that they are planning to release the big ships makes me wonder how the new rules are going to be like.. let alone the storage n portabililty issues.

I use a deck box for my pilots. They all have the FFG sleeves. I'm fully maxed out in the box and in my pack. I'm waiting for the next wave to worry about new space.
