Wave 4!

By dashrendar, in X-Wing

Imperial Interdictor Cruiser, enemy ships in range 1-2 cannot performe moves over 2 on their turn dial. hehehe, just an idea

I love the idea of having a ship with an area of effect ability that changes movement options, but Interdictors prevent ships from entering hyperspace and didn't effect normal sub-light flight. Unless there's something I missed in the fiction, which is totally possible.

no you are right. i was just thinking of a way that the ability of the interdictor could be used in the game since we cant jump into hyperspace

Since Interdictors work on the premise of a "gravity well" that creates a false gravity reading, maybe that could be used to mess with nav computers and randomize flight paths.... i don't know...it's something fun to think about

I was never really clear on if the gravity wells that interdictors used created real gravity or just faked its presence. If it created a real gravity source, then that would definitely alter flight paths...someone more steeped in the fiction than me will have to give a more definitive answer on that.

I am wondering if/what the "capital ships" rules will be. Ion tokens probably causing loss of a weapon system or similar. Maybe primary weapons will have reduced firepower to reflect the more powerful shields and the need to hit them with ordnance to get through. Maybe even collision effects.

Very exciting. Wave 4 will definitely give us something new to add to our X-Wing games.

These look fantastic. Is the x-wing just for scale or a new sculpt?

From everything I've heard it sounds like it's a new sculpt a "variant X-wing" or something like that. Maybe an XJ series X-wing with boosted stats.

that was my thought. if they are XJ's that means no Astromechs for the Variant X-wings right? Wasnt one point of the XJ to elliminate the need for an astromech to plot jumps?

Not sure about the astromech thing. From what I remember they were more maneuverable and carried upgraded weaponry. An X-wing with some astromech abilities built-in would be pretty sweet though!

The new X-Wing is just a repaint - not a new model.

Better details in a nice high-res (view fullscreen!) video, here:

Given comment about Porkins being included, I'd assume the point of this 'variant X-Wing' is just to bring us new pilots/R2 units/talent cards alongside a new paint scheme for some spice. Kinda expect Farlander in this set, myself. Probably Arhul Narra, too (I mean, we have 2 of the 3 founders of Rogue Squadron already, right?). Although Puck Naeco is a possibility, too - shot down over Yavin covering Garvin Dreis (who we already have). Or, heck, Dak Ralter (who can take on the whole empire, himself!) who took Biggs slot in Red Squadron after Yavin....

Really, there are so MANY 'famous' X-Wing pilots it's rather a surprise we haven't seen an expansion like this, before. I guess I'm a touch disappointed that they are handling it as a full expansion-with-mini...although having a new paintjob is nice, I suppose. Would rather have gotten the pilots and cards via a smaller/cheaper upgrade set of cardboard/tokens/card, only, but...heck, new paintjob saves me the trouble of doing it to spice up the X-Wing fleet some, so...whatevs!

I do believe that there was a post a few months back from some guys in the U.K. who got to do a closed door meeting with FFG people and when they came out they said that the YT and Firespray were "medium" ships....

Thanks for the clarification, xanderf!

Thanks for the link - they look awesome!

I agree totally, this makes sense now with the re-paint. Just out of curiosity, how many x-wings made up Rogue Squadron? I'm shortly going to have 6 and wonder how many of the new expansions I'll need?

I remember that now, it was actually a gaming manufacturer's consortium in Germany. I also remember how everyone scoffed at the very idea that it was true...

That new x-wing looks better than the present one.

I do hope the imperial capital ships news comes out soon. I was corellian gunship as it is about the same size as corvette and it is know to be use by imperial for what read about it.

One note on the X-Wing, I think it might come with the medium transport. The little paper tags with the transport reads "and escort."

They all have Tractor Beams, so your idea would work for just about any Imperial capital ship. We'll just have to wait and see!

Well, a squadron is 12 fighters, and Rogue was always typical. 3 flights of 4 ships to be precise. I would love to see Farlander, and Corran Horn, or Bror Jace...all the Rogues would be awesome to have eventually.

I'm still a little skeptical about the whole thing. I mean, what exactly would a Rebel Transport bring to the game for sixty bucks?

And... Porkins? Really? Maybe it's true, but to me it all screams "hoax."

Yes, I'm sure FFG did an entire reveal (at GenCon no less) to a sold out room, just to later say "We gotcha!"

As it's been reported by numerous people who are physically at GenCon ( including a guy I play X-Wing with every week) I think that it's pretty clear that it isn't a hoax.

I also don't think the Transport and Corvette are supposed to "bring anything to the game" as it is currently. They seem to be meant for the upcoming "Epic" rules (larger, more cinematic battles, more points, likely larger play area). I doubt they'll be viable for 100 point games. They're pretty clearly meant to allow people to move in another direction with the game, so to each their own.

If you don't want them, don't buy them. Not a difficult concept.

Jim

I can't wait for the Corvette, Transport and Jek Porkins!

Will Porkins be a card or part of the x-wing variant...hmm....

These ships open up a lot of fun for escape from Hoth, the Trench run and escort scenarios!

My son and I already do the escape the Death Star with the Falcon. I build a "piece" of the Death Star...that has a docking bay big enough for the Falcon.....and a mad dash across the an 8' board with TIEs in hot pursuit!

Oh no. My wife already doesn't like that I spent a lot of money pre-ordering wave 3...

How am I going to explain this to her?!

Corvette has to be dual faction, there's not a lot of room and not that many dollar bills in our wallet!

I agree with Jim, it is a to each their own. I'm planning on sticking to 100pt games.

Those look nice but they appear to be on the small side. The Hasbro CR-90 is 16" and people have been saying it is 6" too short to be in scale.

Well, unless FFG decided to go off the proper scale reservation....which they were so completely against initially, even contacting Lucas Films to discuss the original filming models....

This was insightful:

I'm reasonably sure that I'll stick with 100 point games for the most part as well. But I'll definitely be buying 1 of each because, they are just freaking cool and I'm sure I'll want to play the X-Pocalypse variant at times just to shake things up a bit.

I'm also pretty sure that I won't be buying more than one of each. Ok, ok, maybe two of the Transport if there are some wicked cool non-unique upgrades in it.

Jim

I have four X-Wings right now, based on what can be done with 100 pts. However, with the introduction of large ships, I have a feeling that 100 pts is no longer going to be the standard. I might only get one of the variants, in case more come out down the road, but that's probably really going to depend on the upgrade and pilot cards. Hopefully FFG will be kind here, because those large ships are going to eat up a lot of what I would have spent on variants.

X-Pocalypse. Genius.
