Token Balance

By Rodent Mastermind, in X-Wing

I'm messing about with lazer cutters. originally to make some nice personalised maneuver bars and range rulers, but turns out I have room on the sheets for some tokens, currently I have it set up with

Green

  • 23 Focus Tokens
  • 14 Evade Tokens
  • 10 Ion Markers
  • 13 Enemy Locked On Markers

Orange

  • 31 Shield Markers
  • 12 Stressed Markers
  • 16 Critical Markers
  • 13 Enemy Locked On Markers

Does that look around the right mix. I seem to use Focus much more than any other marker, and you will need at least 2 Shield for every Rebel ship, and maybe extra for your Firespray.

Looks pretty good, though you may want to print more focus and fewer evades. No ship will ever have more than 1 evade at a time, whereas focus tokens can easily be used in groups of 2 or even stored on the Moldy Crow. Maybe drop evades to 10-12?

For a 100 point game, the most you'll ever need is:

8 Evades (from 8 TIE fighters)

8 Focuses (from 8 TIE fighters)

5 Target Locks (from 5 Y wings / A wings)

8 Ions (Against 4 shuttles ships. You can only place a max of 4 per turn)

8 Criticals (from 8 TIE fighters)

20 Shields (from 5 B wings or 4 Lambda Shuttles)

Infinite Stresses (From Tyco)

8 Stresses should be good (8 TIEs, or 4 for Tyco + 4 A wings)

If you were looking to supply for a Rebels vs. Imperial 100 point game, then the following would be the max needed:

13 Evade (8 TIEs + 5 A Wings)

13 Focuses (8 TIEs + 5 A Wings / Y Wings)

9 Target Locks (4 TIE/x1 + 5 A Wings / Y Wings)

10 Ions (4 Lambda Shuttles w/ Ion Cannon vs. 1 Y Wing, 2 ORS, and 1 A Wing)

40 Shields (from 4 Lambda Shuttles + 4 B Wings)

Note: If the generic Lambda pilot ends up costing 20 or less, then you will need 5 more shields both ways. And two more Ion tokens for the 1 player 100 point version.

Khyros: Focus tokens can be gained 2 at a time with Recon Specialist, stockpiled on the Moldy Crow, or gained 2 at a time by Soontir Fel. So the 8 focus limit is not really a hard limit.

Good call on the combo of recon + MC. If you had 4 HWK-290 w/ Recon Specialist (assuming generic costs 17+ points... if it was only 16, you could have 5 total), and one with the MC title, you could need 10 (and therefore need 12).

As for Soontir Fel, I realize that, but you could only have 6 other TIEs with him. As such you'd max out at 8 anyways.

Infinite Stresses (From Tyco)

We're going to need a bigger sheet. :D

I Don't think Tycho can get infinite Stresses, his card doesn't allow him to take red maneuvers while Stressed... though he may still do Actions. You can gain more than 1 if you dodge Kath Scarlet. I think it's safe to assume you will rarely if ever go above 1.5 x number of ships flying though.

Shields are the ones I was most worried about, so this was really a thread to gauge whether I could (or needed) to strip other counters off the red sheet to make room for more, but it sounds like I have just about the right amount of everything else on the sheet. I think it's unlikely I will go over 30 shields, I'm not sure a) 4 Lamda is that viable, and b) I doubt I will ever get 4 Lamda (or 4 B-Wings for that matter).

If tycho has PTL he can just keep racking up the stress

If tycho has PTL he can just keep racking up the stress

Ah yeah. Saying that I think I should still be fine, most ships try to shed stress fairly quickly.

I always disliked that FFG made the evade and focus tokens the same color. When i ordered my acrylic tokens, I made the focus tokens neon green, ion tokens neon orange, evade tokens blue, and stress tokens red. There is no doubt in my mind which token is which and it makes it easier on my opponent to know what each ship has as well.

In the end managed to fit

Green

  • 26 Focus Tokens
  • 14 Evade Tokens
  • 11 Ion Markers
  • 13 Target Locked On Markers
  • 4 Marksmanship Action Tokens
  • 4 Expose Action Tokens
  • 2 R2-F2 Action Tokens

Orange

  • 40 Shield Markers
  • 17 Stressed Markers
  • 14 Critical Markers
  • 13 Enemy Locked On Markers

on the sheet, which should I think do most games.

Lol. If you don't have enough tokens with that, you were playing an awfully, awfully large game!

I'm curious how you depicted the Marksman, Expose and R2-F2 tokens. Great idea creating these new tokens, I think they are really needed in the game.

One thing I would have done differently is to keep all tokens that should be removed at the end of the round one color. That makes the end phase easier to clean up. That's why I like that target locks are red and blue instead of green.

OK.. this is a computer rendered version of how they could look. I think they are going to be on Flourensent green so they will be a bit brighter than this.

I felt the most important thing was you could easily get the gist of what they did while still having the text name so you could refer to the card for more details.

The limiting factor here was sheets of perspex, I was printing the maneuver templates and had room between them for counters. I ideally would want the Shields Blue.. and maybe the Ion templates Orange. But seeing as I can't do that, they wouldn't fit and I'm not doing a 3rd sheet in blue... Actions are round.. Negative effects are triangular (Ion, Crit, Stress).... Target lock are square (-ish) and the Shields are cog shaped.

The tokens all look great. Thanks for the picture.
