I just watched Will and his Table Top video of them playing x-wing. Wow, they were bad. maybe it was just people playing the game for the first time and only one of them read the rulles... sort of. The video was great and it was the most fun of any X-wing video I have ever watched, but the shear number of rules mistakes made we want to cringe.
The Table Top Folks are bad at this game
Yeah... we sorta mixed bag our thoughts on that vid in another post the day it came out. But I feel ya.. I too cringed with their mistakes.
Can you link the video here, I haven't seen it.
There is another thread in the forums with it hot linked. They were sort of playing X-wing...
so they were playing x-wing....
i thought it was some other game that looked like x-wing... ![]()
Come on guys, they are playing the quick Quick Start rules.
The point of TableTop is to INTRODUCE the game not play a highly competitive rules lawyered game. I think they accomplished the goal, hopefully we'll see new players as a result. Sure it could have been more accurate but I dislike all the criticism because I fear it will turn new players away before they investigate the game further.
Yep as far as I was concerned did the job, after eyeing it up for a while I brought the game... I've watched quite a few Tabletops and they are never 100% accurate.. But do we really expect them to be, they do a new game every week or so, they all have other jobs, and sometimes it is 1 or more of the players first time.

Yes, the program fulfilled the mission of demonstrating the fun of playing the game, but they were not playing quick start rules, either. It's not "rules lawyering" to simply observe that they inconsistently picked which rules and abilities they were going to apply.
So to those hypothetical people that are watching that show as your intro to X-wing, and then coming into this thread to decide whether or not to play the game, I say unto you: Table top was NOT an accurate demonstration of X-wing. However, the real game is MORE fun than what they showed. Please do not be discouraged by people pointing out that X-wing actually has consistent rules to play the game by.
Either way, I like this game and wish I could get paid for playing, demoing and reporting on games

Wil told me that he doesn't make the show for people who nitpick rules. He makes it to introduce people to tabletop gaming. If exact rules were what you were looking for, then the show wasn't for you. (Part of it has to do with length and production time.) I know a lot of people who have seen games demoed on Table Top, and took an interest. It's gotten a lot of them into playing stuff they never knew existed. Yeah, maybe they don't get the rules right the first time. But at some point, none of us knew the rules to the game, and we probably all made mistakes. Difference is, nearly 200,000 people have watched that episode of Table Top. You'll never get anywhere near that number to come in and watch any of us play the game.
If you're looking for an instructional to tell you exact rules, then this show is not for you. It may make you cringe if that's what you are expecting. You can still enjoy it, though. Heck, I cringe when people start new threads while there is a current one on the topic already, but it's not what I come here for, so I don't worry about it. ![]()
Seams to me that the show did exactly what it was supposed to do, Show that the game is fun,Theirs nothing worse than sitting opposit someone with a monotone voice and haveing any interest in a game rules lawyerd out of you.
It dos`nt matter if the game they played was 100% accurat or not, it was a hook to get people into the game.
