Boost/Setback dice too arbitrary (review reference)?

By Pygon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I doubt that FFG has even noticed this review. It's at 4.5 stars at Amazon with 35 reviews, including mine, and I imagine that is much more what FFG would be looking at. If they spend much time in website reviews.

Edit - oh, and if you don't like a review, the best thing to do is your own review. It's really rare that they change their mind - it does happen once in a blue moon.

At least among the people I know that play, too many people spoke about their Pathfinder characters in terms of numbers... stuff like Damage Per Round and things like that. With EOTE, people talk about their characters in terms of their achievements. I think these dice have a lot to do with that.

There are definitely some issues in this game, but the dice pools are one of favorite parts.

As mentioned above the biggest benefit is they seem to encourage roleplaying. It does seem to have players looking at results of actions instead of numbers.

And the results of each roll are evocative. Differing degrees of success or failure, differing degrees of advantages or disadvantages. You can't just roll and move on, done. Every roll is a prompt for the GM and players to introduce additional details into what just happened to account for the result. Sure, you succeeded the routine check to find a buyer for some loot but oh crap, 4 disadvantages. He recognizes you from a wanted poster and alerts the authorities as you leave.

I was trying to do exactly that over at Paizo. I couldn't find anywhere to add a review beside the error-filled one, only comments at their forum.

For those interested, posting a review at www.rpggeek.com would probably help as well. Their rating system I believe accounts for a certain level of bias, but I'm not that good at stats :P

There are only abour 30 people who have voted thus far, and i'd like to see more.

Right above the reviews, below the Product Rating stars, is a sentence Write a review etc. It is a link to write a review.
