Shock Maul

By Covered in Weasels, in Game Mechanics

Why is the shock maui a basic weapon? I thought it was intended to be used in one hand while holding a riot shield in the off-hand. As it stands, you'd take a -20 penalty for using it in that fasion.

Brought the same point up myself. For one of the few weapons that is intended to be used for capturing an opponent, its just a tad bit too hard to equip (its basic), find (its avl is a bit off), to hard to wield (shock weapon training is so niche most players ignore it), and finally a bit too strong (with the damage it deals, you might accidently hurt the target too much).

Some of those would be OK for it to have, but the combination of all those points makes life a bit rough.

Regarding the lethality:

We would need an optional on-lethal weapon-trait that could also be used mandatory for Unarmed Attacks

The Shock weapon grouping is so small as to not be worth the investment. As it stands, Shock Mauls and Shock Staves are basically all that exist. I say just roll them into Basic.

I seem to remember that in DH1, you could always declare that your attack was meant to be non-lethal (which would result in knocking someone unconscious, instead of killing them).

Did I make that up? If I didn't, was it removed from DH2?

I'd give Arbitrators Shock Training for free.

Also, I'd make it -10, so they can take it at creation.

However, I'd leave it Basic, and allow Recoil Gloves to allow one-handing it. Arbitrators tend to use these anyway.

I'd also stat up shields.
