What is the worst and most useless hero so far?

By rekath16, in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

Is it too early to change my vote to the new spirit hero that was spoiled at gencon in the 5th AP? After some consideration, pippin seems like an upgrade to her self-destructive "ability". I cant see myself ever using her unless her 3 unrevealed stats (threat level, WP, and atk) are god like

OMG, the new hero is ridiculous :'( :'( :'(

Aaaand they're not.

Bard the Bowman?! You must be joking. He is one of my favorite heroes to use. Slap a Great Yew Bow and Black Arrow on him (or use Hands Upon the Bow) and he can take out just about any existing enemy in the game before they even hurt you.

I try to stick to theme decks most of the time (all dwarves, all Gondor, Rohan, etc.) but I do have to include Bard a lot of the time because of how awesome he is. I just pretend like he's an old man, but still a beast!

Sounds like Pipiin is ok fellow. We have a new Gondor useless girl....

Ha, what a bummer. This cycle has given us possibly 2 of the worst heroes yet created. woof.

Spoiler alert: I actually think that Fatty Bolger is such a bad hero that I'll be willing to try Spirit Pippin in my hobbit deck lol.

Indeed, Pippin is just a disaster all around. If the spirit hobbit in black riders is even decent (let alone as fantastic as Sam, Merry, and the new Pippin) I have a hard time seeing why he should ever see play...ever.

Its not even like he'll see usage just for thematic play-through's either with the lore version being released so soon.

i jinx'd myself. darn it.

i think fatty will combo well with new threat reduction cards. so you can potentially ingnore say a 5 threat enemy's threat then reduce it again. it may be worth it

Fatty is also very bad... you are right.

Wait... what? Did I miss where the "Fatty" reveal was... ****. ARE ALL THE COOL KIDS AT GENCON????

other thread my friend

lol... JUST saw it... I've been off the boards for a bit (busy work schedule), and have just been getting caught up on the threads. I alwasy start with the older threads and work my way to newer. Just happened to be higher on the list.... :P

I wonder why new Faramir is not mentioned here. Very expensive lore hero who has an ability that is mostly useless in solo play.

Btw, wouldn't Pippin and Faramir make a nice combo in a two player game? Think about the synergy! The Hobbits lure the enemies in their direction, and when they start to attack, they disappear and a very angry Faramir shoots them from behind. I mean I can already the that on screen!

Only if not allways 2 enemies will be revealed.

Its always difficult to construct a 2-player-deck as fight+no fight deck. Sometimes one enemy comes even to the other guy without attack... Hello Goblin Follower, I mean you!

Because in a secrecy deck (Faramir + practically anyone), the ability isn't just worthless but really strong? With the 3 ranger spikes you can get a permanent +3 off the ability.

You can give Farmair the great yew bow as well to shoot people in the staging area. There's nothing weak about Faramir.

yes, i like the new faramir. in a mono lore deck with mirlonde and bilbo to get the traps out. hammersmith or anborn to recylcle.

I really should have called this threat "what is the worst hero" instead of useless, cause there really is a certain difference.

SPOILER (in case anyone hasn't seen the new heroes from Gen Con)

You could definitely make an argument that the three (maybe 4) worst heroes are spirit. Pippin, Fatty, and Caldara. I think Dunhere is also in the discussion, although he may have been saved by Dagger of Westernesse.

and they are all the 3 newest spirit heroes too. quite disappointing

Fatty by himself is bad,

but I would probably go easy on him as he is a Hobbit in a Spirit sphere,

and with Frodo out equation during Black Rider Saga expansion I would still take Fatty over Spirit Pippin.

If by using Fatty's ability you were able to finish a quest stage turn earlier, hence letting you finish the entire quest turn earlier, then it would better your score in the end.

But there is no excuse for Celdara.

Kill a hero for 2 free Stand and Fight.

If I absolutely had to have a Spirit *made up* female Gondor hero in my deck, I'd take Eleanor over her anyday.

Dunhere, Spirit Pippin, Fatty, and whichever hero that made to top of this list positively looks very good in comparison to Celdara.

Maybe we'll get amazing spirit allies in the near future... now if only Caldara's ability worked on allies of any sphere... then she would be awesome.

For a reason. Spirit is already a quite strong sphere with lots of synergies and useful cards. Spirit doesn't have to rely on the strenghts of its heroes, because it has awesome player cards and a low starting threat.

In general, and I repeat myself here, I am glad that they stopped making overpowered heroes like spirit Glorfindel. I can still remember the outcry when he was announced: "Too strong! Ridiculous overpowered with that attachment etc.." The new heroes have unique abilities which allows for different decks and strategies. They're like tools that the players can use to create a powerful deck. Yes, compared to some of the old heroes they might be weak. But that doesn't mean that they're useless. In fact most of these weaker heroes offer you more enjoyment whilst playing than others (just read about all the complaints about Amon Din and Druadan Forest).

Actually this is very true. I agree with you 100%

There can often be times when you'd sacrifice some threat for some progress on a particular quest stage or location, so I can see Fatty having his uses. I wonder what the encounter cards in The Black Riders are like - maybe this is ability is better in those quests than the ones we've got. Or it's another sub-par spirit hero, one or the other.

Maybe the child of Caleb Grace created Fatty?
