Full Throttle

By ccarlson101, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

By my understanding of the talent, Full Throttle does not actually increase the current speed of the ship. It only increase the ship's potential by 1 for a number of rounds equal to your Cunning.

So you wait until you've maxed your normal speed. Then you have to spend a round activating the talent. Then your next action the following round to raise your speed to the new, temporary limit? Which then falls off after the round ends. So with an average Cunning (2), you get the benefit of the increased speed for only a single round?

Is this how it is supposed to work?

Did Admiral Akbar write this talent?... ;)

Doesn't it end at the end of the 2nd round though? So...

1st Round - Activate and gain the speed boost. Other players may enjoy the boost of speed.

2nd Round - Use ability.

3rd Round - Use ability.

I am AFB at the moment, so the end of the round mention may not exist in anything but my faulty memory.

First off, Full Throttle is an Action in its base form. So you can accelerate and increase speed in the same round.

Also, you could go Full Throttle and then Punch It, and take the system strain

I'd also consider allowing a ship currently in top speed, which then uses Full Throttle, or even better Improved Full Throttle, to also get a free accelerate manoeuvre in. Or not.

So, with improved full throttle and taking a bunch of system strain you could full throttle, punch it and gain the advantage in one round, which is nice. or attack.

Ah, you're right of course. I forgot Accelerate was a maneuver and not an action. Nebermine...

I'm reading this to say that once you make a successful full throttle roll, it's an action and that brings the speed up to max speed +1 as part of the action. If you look at improved full throttle, it can be attempted as a maneuver rather than an action, which indicates to me that the speed increase is part of the action and would not require an actual maneuver to do it. In terms of how many rounds it lasts, I would presume a pilot with 2 cunning would be until the end of the pilot character's 2nd turn. Status effects like Staggered and Immobilized seem to work this way.

So a cunning player might game the system a bit by going in the first initiative slot, activating full throttle, which would then last through all of the next turn, and then in the round after that, they choose to go last, getting the most benefit out of full throttle.

Mind you, they could activate Full Throttle again and keep it going as long as necessary. However, since the basic Full Throttle is an action, it means that the pilot can't take a different action when activing it.

I declare Jegergryte to be Master of Vehicles.
