Expansions; new races?

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I think read somewhere it was going to come with a few new species.

What you read was probably fan speculation. No official FFG material has definitively indicated whether new species will be included.

Jeyderu, you are off to a good start, but I see a few flaws around. Not all talents should be weighed equally. Enduring (the droid talent) is rare, and never found below the 20 EXP threshold. Thus, it should be given more weight than the more common ones that you might find on other races. You also forget that droids can't be mind tricked, they don't need to eat, breathe, drink, or sleep. Those are all REALLY major things, and all of that together more than makes up for the discrepancy in EXP.

I also think that people undervalue the droid ability to have equipment built-in. The ability to never worry about forgetting a key piece of equipment, or being able to sneak internal systems past guards, can be huge if the GM is doing his job and including the proper narrative feel (i.e., not letting people walk down the street on a civilized world with a heavy blaster rifle on their back).

I appreciate the starting Talent :) and appreciate your input. I will also consider your input in regards to the Droid's as that one more the others had me perplexed for the large difference. When I started this breakdown I went in with the idea that not everything was same at 5xp. After I write this post I'm going to go back and edit my breakdown :)

I also don't think Wounds and Strain are given equal weight. Toughened gives +2 wounds and Grit gives +1 Strain. Wound thresholds go up to 14 but I've never seen a starting Strain threshold go above 12. I suggest that you make each wound point cost 1/2 the cost of 1 Strain point (with 2 equalling 5 Experience.)

Also, some abilities are given more weight. The Wookiee's rage is incredibly strong, so it seems to count more towards the EXP threshold.

Having a higher/lower Brawn and Agility scores is also given a little bit of extra weight as well. The Rodian, who has a 3 in agility and a 2 in Brawn, gets a talent and a skill, with 10 and 10. The Twi'lek, who has a 1 in Brawn and a 2 in Agility, gets 11 Strain, a choice between two skills, and the heat resistance. All and all, that is a little bit heavier than the one skill and a basic talent, since a low brawn means a lower wound threshold.

While I feel that some talents may have far more beneficial effect than others. Mathematically a 300xp theme runs through all the races.

Now I'm going to pop back to my prior post and do some fixes based on the various suggestions and realizations :)

To be honest I really wanted to give Wookie's rage more than 5xp. I even held out until I finished with the last 2(trando and Droid as I left Droid to last) before going back to the Wookie. Common +1boost die for suffering wound, then +1 additional Boostdie for suffering an injury? I can only imagine the balance is that it's only 1 Boost after the initial hit and doesn't last the duration of combat. Cause Rage is nasty nasty in combat. However, after going back over and put it at 5xp it let the Wookie stand at 300xp along with the others. I also thing Trandoshan Regeneration should have valued more than 5xp, but when valued at 5xp the Trandoshan will sit at 300xp along with the others.

Wookiee Rage doesn't provide Boost dice. It grants the equivalent of 1 rank of Feral Strength whenever the Wookiee has suffered 1 or more Wounds. This is replaced by the equivalent of 2 ranks of Feral Strength whenever the Wookiee is sufferring from a Critical Injury. Since this stacks with any Feral Strength the Wookiee may have and the Wookiee is likely to have a medium-to-high Brawn, this really lets Wookiees lay the smack down with Brawl and Melee attacks.
