Obligation, Duty, and...

By schoon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I would laugh out loud if they include a midichlorian count on the Jedi character sheet.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force -- as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Destiny seems to be the most obvious.

I agree because it's right there in the book's title!

Maybe that's why I was thinking of it lol.

Obligation works. Duty I can see.

Destiny is the title of the book, and would work as a mechanic. Roll on the destiny table and something happens to that person tied to their destiny.

It sounds odd though. And Destiny isn't something people take on willingly if you know what I mean. I understand how one can increase/decrease obligation or duty....but Destiny?

Oath isn't bad.

How bout Allegience? Figuring that the third scale will be a light vs dark scale, allegience might work. Do you have an allegience to the dark side? Did you perform an overtly evil action, you gain allegience to the dark side.

I like this. Players can choose to follow Destiny or not, but it's not something they can take on volutarily. Oath or allegiance are great ideas.

I think it will either be Destiny or Commitment.

I think Destiny, both sides keep on talking about it all the time.

What if players don't choose their destiny, but the GM assigns it, simulating the Force at work? And every so often, when their destiny comes up, the GM teases hints of it... their "It is your destiny" moment.... I think that would work.

I don't see destiny workng to be honest, it is too vague a concept as opposed to the simple and easily definable obligation and duty.
