Ibitsam has done more in canon than any of the other women combined. She's Rogue Squadron, that makes her a badass..
With her release, she is the 4th member of Rogue Squadron to get printed on a pilot card.
Luke, Wedge, Tycho and Ibitsam....
Which pilots, so far, are women/female.

Which is funny, because FFG refers to Echo as a He. Whisper on the other hand is the schrodinger's cat gender.
People have been calling Echo a she, because someone pointed out that in greek mythology, Echo is female - a nymph and it caught on.
Now, its highly doubtful Echo is named after greek mythos and more likely, after a real echo.

Considering the ship, I'm sure it's a reference to a Sensor Echo. But all the Phantom pilots have semi-spooky/stealthy names. So Echo makes sense.
Also, I've heard we'll see Nera Dantels as another female character in Rebel Aces, piloting B-wing. She was a smuggler who worked with Alliance, and later joined the Rebellion. She was flying with the very first B-wing unit, Dagger Squadron, as Blue Dagger. She also had a relationship with Biggs
That's cool. I suspected the PS5 B-wing pilot would be her.
Edited by WraithdtYou know what there's even less of? Non-white humans in the OT era EU.
Human pilots that aren't white?
Wasn't "Rouge" squadron the all female squad?Rouge was formed after Yavin. While Wedge and Luke still consider Biggs, Garven, and Porkins to be the "original rouges" they were never officially part of that squadren since it didn't exist yet.
Awesome! Freudian slip much?
According to the Wookiee, Echo was a clone trooper who died in 21 BBY at Lola Sayu.
So is this an FFG original character? Who else did FFG come up with?

Yeah that's not the same thing as the Clone Trooper called Echo.

Yeah, I figured a dead clone would not be the most ideal candidate for TIE Phantom piloting school. It'd be nice if FFG would support these characters with a little lore. Also, just because the Wookiee doesn't have a page for something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though it's fairly thorough, IMO.

Considering how obscure the Phantom's origins are and how there are basically no phantom pilots whose identity we actually know, FFG probably just threw together some appropriate sounding test pilot code names that don't actually refer to any real character
I wouldn't be surprised if we get lore for the TIE Phantom pilots in the CCG and/or the tabletop RPG.
I am disappointed we have so few female pilots.I seriously appreciate Ibti as she is a female non-white non-human, but diversity is really low in this game. I can totally appreciate that this game is based on source material with very little diversity (either canon films or EU), but in cases like the TIE Phantom where there is little source material so they have to make up new charactesr, I think they have an opportunity to add a bit more.

I'll give you three guesses where the word "echo" comes from.

Well as you point out they have to stay somewhat true to the fluff, and most named pilots existed prior to this game. Not like they can make Wedge a dark skinned woman...
But given the nature of the game, does it really matter what gender, race or even species the pilots are? You don't even see art of the pilot, just the ship they're in.
I honestly don't care a bit about the race, species or gender of pilots, because it has no meaning in this game. But it would be nice from a fluff POV to see a bit more variety in the pilots.
My headcanon trumps Ffg; Echo and Whisper are lady pilots.
Is it me but it looks like Ibtisam is "taking a laser to the knee" in the last Hexis pic?
