Design your own AP

By bard8, in CoC General Discussion

Johnny Shoes had his "design an AP" thread a while ago for the combat-oriented AP. I thought it'd be nice to continue this, so please post your own card design bearing in mind the next AP focuses on Arcane. No prizes will be given, this is just for fun (and maybe inspiration for the design team for future APs ;) ).

Here are a few creations by me:

----------
"Recast", 0 cost Yog-Sothoth event, steadfast YOG

Play during your operations phase.
Action: exhaust a ready character you control with at least 1 Arcane icon to return an event card from your discard pile to your hand.
----------

----------
"Unorthodox Artist", Hastur cost 3 character
Arcane

skill 3

Cultist. Artist.
All characters you control gain an Arcane icon for each printed Terror icon they have.
All characters you control gain a Terror icon for each printed Arcane icon they have.
-----------

-----------
"M.U. Library Guardian", Miskatonic cost 2 character
Investigation

Skill 4
Investigator.
Disrupt: Pay 1 to cancel a triggered effect that targets a character you control with an Arcane icon.
-----------

-----------
"Hunt Down The Cult", Agency cost 1 support

You may play ~this~ in any phase any time you could take an action.
Characters your opponents control lose all Arcane icons.
-----------

"Soggy Pages"

Cost 1 Cthulhu Event

If played during the story phase, ignore one arcane icon on all characters committed to stories until the end of the phase.

If played outside the story phase, choose and discard one tome in play.

OK, not all of them are stricty Arcane focused. Most of inspiration was from The Call of Cthulhu short story wikipedia entry.

*Gustaf Johansen,

second mate of the Emma

Agency

Character, cost 2 to 4

Combat

Skill 1

Independent

Willpower

Response: after you ready -this-, return an [Agency] event from your discard pile to your hand.

Languages Professor

Miskatonic

Character, cost 3 to 4

no icons

Skill 4

Action: exhaust a Tome you control to put a success token on a story with 3 or fewer token on.

*Fleur-de-Lys Building

Syndicate

Support, cost 1

Location

All characters lose [Arcane Icon]

Action: exhaust to chose a character, that character gets -1 skill

*The Kraken,

by Alfred Tennyson

Cthulhu

Support, cost 1

Tome

While characters you control have at least 5 arcane icons, cost to play Disaster events is lowered by 3.ù

Forced Response: after a Disaster event is played, sacrifice -this-

(oh, I wished I had the idea for Soggy Pages, I really like the card)

The Horror in Clay

Hastur

Conspiracy

Cost 3

TCAI

Only Artist characters may commit to -this-

If you win this story, you may search your deck for a [Cthulhu] Ancient One character, then put it into play. Shuffle your deck afterwards.

(Again, I wished I had thought up Bard's Terror Arcane char)

*Old Castro,

immensely aged mestizo

Yog-Sothoth

Character, cost 4

Arcane Arcane

Skill 0

Cultist

Invulnerability

Disrupt: sacrifice a Cultist to remove -this- from the story he was committed to. Then, draw a card.

Unlimited Scope and Cosmic Range

Shub-Nigurrath

Conspiracy, cost 4

TTAA

Only Heroic and Villainous characters can commit to -this-. The player who wins this needs one less story to win the game.

I wish we had conspiracies like that. I might play some.

Here's one more for fun:

----------

"Prodigy", Yog-Sothoth cost 3 event

Loyal.

Play during a story phase.

Action: Until the end of the phase, if you win an Arcane struggle at a story, you may put a success token on that story.

----------

Makes you want to put those seldom-played multi arcane struggle cards like Glass from Leng to your deck.

Well, The Horror in Clay was more a fluff card, I do not even know how many artists (if any) exist in the game.

On the other hand Scope and Range is what I think Conspiracy should have been: wide sweeping effects that change the game dramatically, to overcome the fact that their effects are (usually) delayed by a couple of turns coupled with some story phase advantage.

Albert Shiny’s Blind Monkey - AG Messenger.
Petrol Generator - AG Day Encounter.

Julia’s Slimy Math Teacher - MU Conspirator Cultist.
Arthur Machen, the Great G-d Pan - MU Esteemed Author.

He Who Smelt It Dealt It - SY Environment Disaster Attached character gains TTTT but commits alone.
Keziah Mason’s Rat Farm - SY Avatar of Nyarlathotep Creature.

Rake Through the Bulkhead Handles - CT Night Ritual.
Neeker Breekers - CT Muteable Creature.

The Land of Mu - HA Lost City.
Space Mead Goggles - HA Mask.

R’yleh Disk Fragment - YO Artifact.
Mole of Yog Sothoth - YO Faculty Investigator Servitor.

Dutch Elm Dark Young - SH Dark Young.
Kvetching Mi-Go - SH Mi-Go.

Eusapian Paladino, Rare Bird - NEU Benefactor.
Beyond the Fields We Know - NEU Twilight.
Re-fitted Evil Harley NEU - Yithian Vehicle.

ROFL! Those are freaking great, Johnny.

Here's a pretty simple idea. I'm sure I'll come up with more later.

Esoteric Knowledge

MU Event

1 Cost

Action: Choose an icon. Arcane icons on characters you control instead count as the chosen icon until the end of the phase.
