Tracking the "path" through Talent trees

By progressions, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

How do you keep track of the "path" your character has taken through their professions' Talent trees?

In some cases there are several different iterations of a Talent in different places on the tree, and of course which specific one you've chosen is important to make sure you can connect the line to the Talents you want next.

I'm not sure that just writing down the names of the Talents is going to be enough to remember it, weeks or months after character creation.

Do you photocopy the Talent trees out of the rulebook and put checkmarks next to the Talents you've purchased?

The Talent Tree pages give a little note at the bottom that they may be photocopied for personal use ... so yes, you would get a copy and checkmark or circle the ones you've progressed through.

However, most of us don't want to pull them out or bend the book in a way to do that, so I'm working on making some printout PDF's, others have as well so check out this page and the great additions:

as some people have done decent work so we can print out the needed Talent Trees (among other things as well).

I've informed my players to write down three numbers: 1) and 2) are column and row. So 1/2 would be first column, second row, so for a Pilot that would be Skilled Jockey. 3) Page number of talent tree.

This is a great idea. A lot more compact that having 2 or more talent tree printouts in addition to character sheets.

I'm printing out a copy of each tree that each player has. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the book if nothing else since players typically want to review their trees and plan ahead quite frequently.

I've thought of photocopying, but I don't have one at home ;)

If one of those printable talent tree pdfs I've been wanting comes in a complete set I might print out at work.

There's already printable PDFs on the boards. I forget the user who has them in his signature but the thread with all the references has it. Then you can email them out and your players can print their own and check off their routes through the tree.

Over at Compiled Resources There are a bunch of great resources including printable talent trees.

I've got some basic ones in greyscale that make tracking talent paths and ranked skills fairly painless. Link is in my sig.

Nice!

Callidon's are brilliant. I use them in my group. Each player has a portfolio with their most recent character sheet, applicable talent trees and some reference sheets. Its all they need to bring each time we meet.

Another option would be to make a small space on the character sheet with a diagram for the character's chosen talent trees -- nothing more than a set of boxes with lines joining them, enough for a reminder of which ones have been picked.

The above is the talent tree set for the Explorer: first the Fringer, then the Scout, then the Trader.

(Edit: I'd make the image bigger, but I think you get the idea. It's supposed to be small to save real estate on the character sheet.)

I'm probably going to give my players Callidon's to use, but right they're drawing a little box and line diagram in the margins of the character sheet. They've written down what they have on their sheet and the nearby diagram lets them know their path.

Callidon! You da man! Those are perfect (except for the fact that the boost die symbol is still blue on the bounty hunter talent trees at least  ) just what I've been looking for. There are others, similar ones, but: they are not grayscale, and/or they do not provide page number and the tick-box.

I find that just writing down the xp cost, and if you have more than one talent tree the tree of origin, works well enough. I can't think of any off the top of my head that have more than on copy of a given talent for the same cost.
