Timeline?

By DravinClaw, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all just a quick question where in the star wars timeline does EotE take place or does it really matter?

I have a story that I have been working on that takes place after Jedi and before the Thrawn Trilogy. I had it worked out for the WEG version till I saw this new system which looks a tad better.

Thanks.

If you are doing a fringer type game, it shouldnt make a difference when the game is set. If you want Jedi or big cruisers you are out of luck tho

The default time of EotE begins between 0-1 ABY. It can easily be shifted up to a decade in either direction without major changes.

The only thing that you'd really have to deal with if you change the point in the timeline is that a lot of the gazetteer stuff is going to be inaccurate. People will still be using blasters and space ships, and the exact mechanics of those is less important than the story people are going through.

Pg. 4 of the Core Rulebook. Sometime shortly after the Battle of Yavin.

Though it doesn't make much difference anyway - the technology basically never changes.

Thanks this is good to know if I had the rule book I would have seen it (I should get it in a few days ) I am having a sit down with my group to see what era they would most likely want to play. I just hope I can get them to play 2 (husband and wife)of them are hardcore D&D players and run at anything not D&D. Which I always find is good to do something different if your getting burned out.

Anything post-Jedi within a decade or so shouldn't make a difference other than story (ie - Jabba, the Emperor, and Vader are dead). Instead of Jabba, you can use some other crime boss. The ships are mostly the same with a few exceptions.

Jedi are still rare, as well, but not outlawed.

I had this problem with my two cousins. I wish I had a solution. I thought telling them my campaign would be Firefly inspired would help but alas they were still like SciFI blah blah.

I am trying to get my 4e D&D group to switch to EotE but they lukewarm on the idea of SW or Sci-Fi so far. I will see what the think when we run through the BG scenario Wednesday night.

I would offer them place at your table to enjoy the new game. If they choose not to participate that is their choice. No group should be limited to only play one game due to the fiat of one or two players. Life is too short for you not to be able to spend your time the way you wish to.

Just don't be a **** about it, and they should come around if/when you ever decide to play D&D again.

Or if you have the bandwidth, start another group with a few other people on a different night.

It is only insurmountable if you allow it to be. So go and have some fun. :)

Huh, it edited out something PG-13 they say on television. Odd.

lukewarm on the idea of SW

Sounds like a bad pun...

Our group is small that there is the problem ...but I may have a way around that my friend wants to join our group and is a noob at tabletop games and I can always see if my 14 yr old wants to play (he was in our D&D group for a campaign).

Well the thing is our D&D dm is working mad overtime and said we can continue just that someone needs to DM. when it comes to D&D I wouldn't know where to go even tho it is a module but star wars I am very knowledgeable about I would just have to wait for my books (core and beginner's guide) to show up. The 1st time in 20 years I was given the go ahead to run a star wars game the two in question bailed without giving me a shot(even tho they love the movies ....even the prequels...go figure)

which I did give them hell for granted the game crashed and burned and I know where I messed up which I will fix and tweak with the new system and I still have the Darkstryder box set if I run out of ideas...lol

Just learn from your mistakes and try to keep the players having fun. Everybody's first game as a GM has issues.
