Typical # of NPC's per player?

By Sanguinous Rex, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

About to run the Beginner Game again with a new group, larger then normal. Either 5 or 6 players. With that # of players, now many NPC's should I use? Should I normally do 1 NPC per PC? For example, at the bar have 6 Gammorean Guards if I have 6 PCs?

What about against "tougher" NCPs like the security robots? Those the scenario says "There are 2 out front, 2 inside" etc. but I think with that # 5-6 players would have NO challenge.

What do you guys usually do?

Right now i've just run it as 1 rival for each player or a group of 3 minions to each player. It seems like a reasonable challenge that favors the PC's overall. I would just set it up for what works for the story.

One thing I like to do is bring enemies in as waves. Especially with minions. If the players are doing too well you can make it harder or hold enemies back if they aren't doing well. I just play it like the people they are fighting have called in backup with their comlinks. This would also give the players reason to buy the comlink jammer. In that case you can always say their friends heard the fighting. You could also make a fight easier because they used the jammer to reward the players for some good playing.

The mod is balanced for 4, I'd say if you are running with 6 pcs, increase everything by a third. I ran a party of 5 through pretty much as written and it was all pretty reasonable.
