Star Trek: Attack Wing support

By Hornaru, in X-Wing

Well said on all fronts Dr Z.

Can everyone just wait until the game is even out before the Anti-Star Trek bashfest begins?

Yes there is a new more awesome die you can use, but if it costs build points to include then how is it any different from a sheild upgrade? I'd like to actually see the rules before feilding accusations about how unfair and unbalanced the game is.

Eisenmerc -> For me, since you asked, it isn't that is cost points to use them. It is because only a select few even have access to them.

Not that I mind, of course if that is your type of game, common, hard to find, rare, unique, only available to those who pay and attend specific events. Then have fun. But, again for me, this is the reason I stopped playing Hero-Clicks.

If you enjoy, play. If not there's plenty of games out there. I wasn't fond of Hero-Clicks so I stop playing and buying it soon after I tried it. Instead I play Star Wars X-Wing. :)

Not complaining or bashing, just my two cents.

right on point. X-Wing is awesome because it doesn't have exclusive pieces available only to those who attend specific events. I absolutely hate that this is the directon Wizkids is taking Attack Wing.

I think since I played Heroclix first before X-Wing I don't really have a problem with the prize support. It is just something I have dealt with since I started playing 7 years ago. I can see how in a non collectible game this can be a very poor choice. Collectible games have a trading element to them that non blind products do not. This is often the way most players around here acquire figures or items they want they may not have won. They trade for what they want. Still not a perfect system, not even close, but it is another way then shelling out cash or time to travel to tournaments to acquire limited pieces.

I have a copy of the Attack Wing rulebook and the games are pretty well the same. A few actions are different in each game (Trek ships can cloak for example), but that's basically it. The only other main differences are in Attack Wing, you have to assign captains to the ships to provide Pilot Numbers, but in X-Wing they are built into the ship cards. X-Wing also has different ship sizes, but in Attack Wing they are all the same size.

Some other (minor) differences are in Attack Wing, ships are also fairly more expensive points-wise, meaning most games will only have 2-3 ships on each side. There's also more dice (with attacks, defense, etc.).

All in all, if you know how to play X-Wing, you basically know how to play Attack Wing, you would just need to go over the different action symbols and cloaking rules. It also seems like X-Wing is for the more serious gamer, while Attack Wing is better suited for casual gaming since players can just buy the factions that they want and not have to invest in as many ships. At least for now, until we know what the prize support is. That could change everything if there are certain prizes that end up being "must own" stuff.

I still want to hope that this works out. Apparently some people have been enjoying it and I still like how crew sounds like it works, and the cloaking uncertainty could be a lot of fun.
