17 1/2 NEW SPECIES

By JonahHex, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey guys! Wrote up some new species stats at work today. I tried to focus on some of the more popular species out there, with a few of my own favorites thrown in for good measure. Hope someone out there finds this useful!

Let me know what you think, guys! :D

I really wanted to add Anzati, Cerean, and Iktochi, but I'm struggling a bit with all three for the moment. Standby!

Great work, man!

Not to burst any bubbles, but have you seen the Unofficial Species Menagerie? A few of your species are pretty close, no implications meant. Just thought I'd share a resource already out there as to see what they've done before you do a lot of work.

Thanks! I had no idea. Like I said I just doodled this up while answering phones at work. I'm a freelance writer on the side so I always do a few pages every day. It doesn't bother me if I did stuff that others have done. Hell, I'm glad I came so close!

I also made a large number of write-ups that can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jdp5u8uoqgk58kb/aZYDhU9zvw

There are some duplicates as to what you did here between mine and the USM too. Some of these are pretty good, but others you might want to re-check. I know you did them as just a pass-time and what not, but some seem a little too strong (i.e. Gammoreans can get 5 Brawn for half their Starting EXP? Too powerful for sure.) I wouldn't allow people to get above a 3 as a starting stat no matter the race. I mean, is your average gammorean truly stronger than your average Wookiee? I don't think so.

But, some interesting ideas here. If I borrow any of them for my own write-ups, I'll be sure to tell and credit you :D

For the record, I ABSOLUTELY didn't plagiarize anyone. If there are duplicates it means we were on the same page creatively, and I for one have no problem with that. After all, none of us technically created any of these species, nor did we write the rules themselves.

As for the races themselves, which ones do you think are too powerful? I wasn't too sure about Gammoreans myself, myself, but like the Barabel and Defel I reverse-engineered their stats as best I could from the the list of adversaries in the Core Rulebook (and even then it was from memory). Personally I don't think they're "too powerful" any more than 7 (out of 19) specializations that get weapon skills are "too powerful". Fighting is only one aspect of the game. Although if they had 50 XP (or even 40 XP) leftover they could easily raise two more characteristics to a "normal" level, I suppose...

LOVE your races, btw. I plan on making them available to my players.

Completely changed Gammorrean and simplified Ithorian. Let me know what you think!

Thank you :D. I'm glad you like them! Feel free to use anything in my dropbox to your heart's content. My only stipulation is that you have fun with it.

But I like those changes a lot more. The only real thing I was worried about was having a starting 4 in Brawn. That just gets too powerful, and it also really restricts what a race can effectively do, rather than just guiding it towards a few selections.
