So the X-Wing Tabletop episode is up for Geek Week.

By DeadInkPen, in X-Wing

Was wondering who else saw it and was shaking their heads at this one? So many things were just bad about it. The firing while being on an asteroid, not using pilot abilities, etc.

I can understand if they modified the rules, but they should have put up some kind of disclaimer letting people know this. I am already dreading game tomorrow with people who are going to be going "Well they did it this way on Tabletop..."

Its awesome that they saved X-Wing for Geek Week Gaming Thursday. Plus is nice exposure for the game, but I thought that they were supposed to at least try and show the proper way of doing the game.

I just watched the episode. There were some glaring errors in the rules, but it didn't affect the outcome in the end.

Overall, I found the episode very entertaining and I thought it did a good job of highlighting how fun the game can be with your friends.

I just watched it. You can see it here:

Great exposure for the game despite a few very glaring errors.

Wesley! Got to your room!

I appreciate TableTop for exposing and introducing people to games they didn't know about or may not have played otherwise, but am i the only one who watches the show and thinks, "OMG, if this is how celebrities play games, i'm glad i'm not one."

I agree that I'm happy they showed the game. I just wish that he introduced an actual X-Wing player to be a quick-reference on the rules. It was sloppily done and the abilities weren't taken advantage of. For a first-timer basic game, I guess it wasn't that bad...also, was I the only one who's heart stopped while that tie fighter was flinged into the air?

Yeah, that was pretty much gibberish. :) Regardless, it will undoubtedly be great exposure for the game. Just tell everyone they made a lot of simplifications to fit it in the time :)

No, I also cringed at the heavy hand (finger) when they showed the models at the beginning.

Still nice to see the game profiled at this level.

I'm glad they finally posted this. I saw it pop up in one of their post show click boxes (probably by mistake) and I've been waiting for it ever since.

While they did make some errors it reminds me of my first time playing and figuring out some of the more complicated rules.

I hope this will get more people into the game and grow the community a bit more.

The rules errors are kind of amusing. My first few games featured target locking tie fighters and evading x-wings, because thats the actions in the book. So its all good, and its nice to have the profiling.

I agree will you all that the exposure was a great thing and i know i made plenry of errors in the begining but none the less i found a few of them very painful to watch.

Think I would have prefered them to just play a match and not a scenario tho.

Agreed, a match would have been better since they didn't really talk about the "mission" much while playing.

Anyone else screaming "THAT'S NOT HOW THAT WORKS!"?????

I actually left comments for almost every mistake that was made..

Nope, I would have gone Pompeii on her ass if she flung one of my models like that. Celeb, or not.. that's just not done.

Even though they didn't play it right on so many levels, it was still pretty entertaining. Although i don't think Wil is as funny as he thinks he is. Seth is always hilarious IMO.

I found one really disappointing thing with Geek Week Gaming Thursday. All but one of their videos are about Video Games on their highlight page, and that one is of the Yogscast. They should have put Tabletop up there, Dice Tower, etc. Gaming is just not video games. There is something about being around around a table playing a game that video games cannot replicate.

Although I've said it before and I'll say it again... this is the PERFECT game for a Surface tabletop. If only my connections at MS were stronger/more grifty!

Obviously they got a lot of things wrong, but then again I'm guessing most people did when playing their first games. I certainly did! The important thing is they captured the spirit and it looked like fun.

I, too, am happy that GEEK & SUNDRY finally "aired" this episode after waiting so long, and right before Gen Con to boot. :D It was good, and fun episode to watch despite the butchering of the rules of the "Den of Thieves" scenario. It was definitely played in the spirit of the game -- "A" for effort.

I wonder how much more this showing of Table Top will cause ships to be out of stock....moreso.

BLURGH! I hadn't thought of that.

Oh god.. "Jek"? "We got a problem here"! "PULL UP"! " NO NO AHHHHWWWW"!

Since I was watching it while waking up before work this morning, I am curious on the exact errors. . I've only played two games of X-Wing so far and awaiting my Wave 1&2 order to arrive before playing more and hence I know I got the Target Lock rule wrong (thought when using a missile/etc that you discarded it).

When you consider the people who were in the video, and take a moment to think about how much others stuff they have going on, I think it's understandable that they haven't had a lot of time to learn the rules, nor become familiar enough with them to avoid mistakes. Keep in mind, Tabletop is not meant as a rules guide for every game they play. It's about introducing games to people. The show entertains me, and I enjoy watching celebrity nerds whose work I enjoy playing games. It's about playing games and having fun.

They were Homing Missile, they got that right.

I also enjoyed the show, it just seemed rushed, but Seth had some good impressions.
