Any Play by Post or Edmonton players?

By Tye, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Well hello there,

Like probably a few of you here I've picked up the rulebook and have been dying for a chance to get into a game. So have been keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that one of you fine folk here knows of a good spot to find a pbp game or have been thinking of starting one up? Also if there is anyone kicking around Edmonton AB with a game I may be interested in that as well :)

The previous play by post game I saw was flooded with interest so if you start one, I'll be happy to join and you'll end up needed to beat people off with a gaffi stick.

I'm very tempted to start one myself but I am extremely new to roleplaying games and so far the only experience I've had with the system as well as the only experience I've had GMing was doing the beginners box session.

I think a gaffi stick may chafe. :P

Edit: Also, I'd be interested in a PbP game.

I'd prefer to play, but I may run....

Well Thanos if you would feel comfortable with possibly running one for a bit I would love to get a chance to learn the game and rping as a character. Then later on could start a new camping which I would GM if players would feel semi comfortable letting a newbie GM take the reins.

Just a thought...

Let me try and get my ideas coalesced into a coherent plot.

My ONLY experience with SWEotE is GMing part of the Beginner Game last weekend. Had a blast. Prepping for the second half this weekend.

I've ordered the Core book and am expecting it's arrival on Thursday, which will give me all of Friday to absorb its contents if i wanted to post my game idea by Saturday.

My idea revolves around a character from the Star Wars canon. I typically dislike using characters from established works because I feel it's cheap and gimmicky, but I may be able to pull something off with this character in a fun and interesting way. Plus, they're new enough and had a vague enough resolution that no one should care what direction I take with them.

I'm from Edmonton, but haven't lived there for several years. If I did, I'd be right there with ya!

On a side note: did you buy the book at Warp One? If so, how much did he gouge ya for it? :D

Awww man I read the first part and thought I found a fellow Edmontonian but nope crushed all hope :(

And I did indeed it was about 75 bucks when it was all said and done after gst if I can remember that right.

And Thanos that sounds like it may be quite intriguing.....

I can't wait to hear your idea!

I suppose Calgary doesn't count? ;)

I think we'll see more players crop up soon.

Ooh... :( Well, the important thing is, you've got the book and it's awesome!

Somewhere around here, I've got a booster box of Revenge of the Sith miniatures with a price tag of (wait for it)... $22.95.

If you want a laugh, google "Nathan Fillion Warp One"! :D

I'd prefer to play, but I may run....

If you do run, I'd be interested, and could show you some of the ropes of Myth-Weavers, an online board system devoted to play by post. It even has functionality for rolling EotE dice.

There appears to be 5 EotE games on Mythweavers, might be somewhere to keep an eye on.

I've been running a game on Roll20 using Hangout for the dice. It works great. I'd suggest anyone looking to put together a game check that out, its all free. I'd also go for the rotating GM role which has been super popular with my group.

:P

And as for Myth-Weavers I stumbled onto that a little to late sadly. There had been one game recruiting but it was set in the legacy era which I'm not to familiar with. It had a really cool premise of the group being Alliance paramedics though.

Greetings from Calgary... (Just wanted to say hi!)

Are you still looking for players?

Hey I found a game that's recruiting on Myth Weavers on my daily poking around various forums. The GM is wanting to do a few duo groups (Han and Chewie style) running separately but parallel stories was wondering if anyone would be interested in partnering up with me :)

I'm open to playing a bunch of different concepts as long as it doesn't involve

any force sensitive characters or droids in the group preferably.

That sounds like an interesting idea.. calls for good chemistry between the two players, more so than in a larger group game.

Just out of curiosity - what's wrong with droids? ;)

I have just never liked them as characters in games. I just think living characters just seem like they can develop more organically (no pun intended) and have more depth to their character. And I know droids can have personality quirks and such but I feel like they should still always be a very structured and almost predictable character since they still rely on their original programming. And when they don't have that structure it just feels off.

And quite possibly I think I maybe am a bit scarred from the whole Episode III version of battle droids. Battle droids should be heartless killing machines not blundering slapstick comedy teams ;p

Roger roger.

...you know I just had to ;)

Did you have any ideas of what kind of a duo you'd like to be part of, then? Also, the GM didn't really talk about what kind of games he'd be running so it might be a moot point, but if slapstick killer droids are not your thing what's the mood you're looking for in Star Wars PbP?

Haha

Hmmm as for a duo type I would like to play as...... I'm completely open to pretty much anything. Definitely find out the other player's preferences are and narrow it down from there. Some maybe cool ideas I could think of off the top of my head besides a smuggler or bounty hunting team (which either of those are really interesting with some fleshed out characters)

- A couple club members from a recently dismantled swoop gang. Which came apart after a member of the club snitched on them as they were running an weapons shipments to the rebels (just watched some Sons of Anarchy last night)

- PI/Law Enforcement partners. Would be similar to a bounty hunter team but they also handle investigations to find out who to put a bounty on.

-A couple of Explorers. Perhaps some Indian Jones style of finding lost ruins and such out in the wild sectors.

-Art thieving duo. Possibly stole a valuable piece from an art collection owned by unknowingly at the time a prominent member of the black suns or an imperial Moff

And could probably think of a few more but I have had an early morning and require more coffee.

I just applied for the aforementioned game, so if anyone has any duo concepts in mind, I'm game. Thoughts offhand:

-Pilot/Copilot --> So overdone to death

-Con artists --> Playing a couple of scam artists and cons could be a lot of fun.

-Mentor/Learner --> Could go a lot of ways with this, but the interaction between the old dog and the young pup could be really cool, be it Bounty Hunters, racers, Force users, etc.

-Investigators --> Already mentioned, but Sherlock and Watson are just too famous to bear mentioning once.

-Noble/Bodyguard --> One person is important and possibly in someone's crosshairs, so the bodyguard must be ever vigilant, without being oppressive.

-Senator/Aide --> Oddly less fringe-like than EotE usually is, but a diplomat and his aide could be interesting, and somewhat like the mentor/learner.

Cool ideas, both of you. The senator / aide thing might be superficial - yes, they're politicians, but the story revolves less around how they solve political issues and more around how deep they've dug themselves personally.

Just off the top of my head,

Bountyhunter and his bounty. Something came up that stopped the hunter from immediately turning in his mark. Now they have to work together to survive.

*Edit - that actually sounds really fun, I'll have to work that in something somewhere.

Funny thing, that - in the game I'm currently active in my character is the bounty hunter, working with his former acquisition. Yes, something came up. In actual gameplay this hasn't been a central plot point, but that's where things kicked off.
