Jobs

By Traverser, in Game Masters

I play sand-box style with my players, but I always like to have a back log of job that they can pick from or I randomly assign them. I was thinking it might be a cool idea for people to post job/bounties/missions in this thread to let others use them in their own groups.

Maybe use the for of:

<Client Name>

<Start Location>

<Job Description/Target>

<Job Location>

<Optional Backstory>

<Payout>

Just an idea I had this morning that I thought I would share. In fact, I'll share one of the small jobs I had my group do.

Client: Jex, Human

Start Location: Lok

Job: Pick up a speeder from Dantooine that will be delivered to the space port at the given coordinates and deliver it to Nar Shaddaa.

Backstory: This job went perfectly fine, they picked it up, took it to nar shaddaa, and a protocol droid with two armored men picked it up. What my group doesn't know is that because they did this job they are going to come into trouble when the owner of that speeder gets caught up with the Empire and throws them under the AT-AT. (Forgive the horrible joke)

Payout: 10,000 Credits

I love posts like this especially for those who plan on doing a sandbox game.

Client: Lana Harke, Human.

Start Location: Mos Ila

Job: Escort man deep into the desert to meet secret transport. As soon as you arrive in the location leave him or the transport won't arrive.

Backstory: Lana found her husband having an affair with the local magistrate. There is no secret transport the job is really to lead him deep into the desert, and leave him there to die. Lana told him that she had arranged passage off Tatooine to "clear the air."

Payout: negotiable 8000 cr.

Client: Gart Morok, Twi'lek

Start Location: Nar Shaddaa

Job: Retrieve a stolen droid component prototype from a group of local thugs.

Backstory: Gart was working on a new droid shield prototype when a band of local thugs wrecked his shop for being late with protection money. They took the prototype which is highly unstable and could explode if handled roughly.

Payout: 2000 cr. and a production version of the prototype once completed.

Client: Svni Laresh, Rodian

Start Location: Anywhere

Job: Svni wants to hire the group for a job, however to test their mettle, she hired 3 bounty hunters to kill them.

Backstory: Svni has heard through the underworld grapevine that the PCs can be counted on to competently perform discreet jobs. So she hired three unknown bounty hunters to assassinate them. Should the group survive she will contact them.

Payout: Survival and further work.

Client: Farghuyr, Wookie

Start Location: Space port.

Job: Hunt down Trandoshan slaver known as Red Talon. He was last seen in the Dantooine system.

Backstory: Farghuyr is an elderly wookie, who is a technical genius. His family was taken by a slaver known as Red Talon, and he was left behind being too decrepit to put up a decent fight or make a good slave. Farghuyr doesn't expect to see his family again, but wants revenge nonetheless.

Payout: 5000 cr. and a wookie life debt from Farghuyr.

Client: Bessk, Trandoshan

Start Location: Anywhere.

Job: Capture a Rodian named Malki alive, bring her to Dosha where Bessk is waiting.

Backstory: Malki once captured Bessk alive, due to a case of mistaken identity, which caused Bessk to lose all his Jagannath points. Thus shaming him in the eyes of The Scorekeeper, and his people. The only way to regain his points is to defeat her in one-on-one combat.

Payout: 3000 cr.

Client: Serion Noshal, Human

Start Location: Anywhere.

Job: Compete in the centennial Hydian race! Once a century, ships from all over the galaxy come to race the longest route in the galaxy. The race is dangerous, more than half the ships that enter never make it to the finish, but the thought of the first place prize money is intoxicating to many.

Backstory: Serion contacts the group with a proposition. She is offering sponsorship in the race on two conditions. One she gets 25% of any prize money, and two the PCs deliver a shipment to Telos, a planet on the Hydian Way. Contact Burka a rodian trader.

Payout: 1 million cr. for first place. 250,000 cr. for second place, and 65,000 cr. for third place.

Just a few off the top of my head.

Here are five more. I have been trying to come up with jobs that can be started anywhere so I dropped the Start Location. Most of mine suggest locations where the missions may happen, but the PCs don't need to be anywhere specific to get the mission. With Datanet and Long range communications the PCs could find the job by searching job boards on Datanet, or being contacted directly. Also the reward amount depends on what you're comfortable with giving. I don't think there is really a "standard" reward amount for jobs, so it's whatever you feel like. I always try to add more than just money to rewards to make it mesh more into the story.

Client: Feriri, Bothan

Job: An alien explorer needs someone to rescue his companion, Tulaa, a hostage of the pirates of the Omban Rift. The Omban Rift is a dangerous area of space most spacers avoid near Teth.

Backstory: Feriri and his companion Tulaa were mapping the Omban Rift, when they were attacked by pirates. Feriri managed to escape, but Tulaa was recaptured.

Payout: 6000 credits and a secret star chart of a short cut through the Omban Rift.

Client: A’Tanndi, Bith

Job: A Bith scientist named A'Tanndi needs someone to investigate a strange alien signal emanating from the Scancia Yrid Expanse a desolate region of space that wreaks havoc with hyper drives rimward of Csilla. In addition, the party must deal with the obnoxious alien while he comes along.

Backstory: A’Tanndi discovered a strange alien signal deep in the Scancia Yrid Expanse. The area is considered a broken sector of space, where hyper drives will not function. The signal is alien and quite powerful, but no planetary bodies are known to exist within the system.

Payout: 8000 credit, and mention in A’Tanndi’s published scientific papers.

Client: Bricken Warder, human.

Job: A corporate agent named Bricken Warder from Bonadan needs someone to discover the fate of a reconnaissance patrol lost in the Korriban System.

Backstory: Bricken Warder ordered a patrol of corporate agents to secretly investigate the long dead Sith home world of Korriban. Bricken lost contact with the patrol when they approached the system. He is willing to pay well for information as to the fate of the lost patrol.

Payout: 15,000 cr.

Client: S’Cirra, Togruta

Job: A Togruta named S'Cirra needs someone to escort a group of robot cargo spaceships to Hoth, needing to avoid any Imperial run-ins.

Backstory: S’Cirra is really a rebel spy and the cargo is medical supplies going to a small rebel outpost. She can’t pay much, but it is for the cause of freedom.

Payout: 3000k, and a rebel contact.

Client: Therili, Bothan.

Job: Hires someone to salvage a derelict combat spaceship in the Budai Maelstrom.

Backstory: Therili is a Bothan information merchant, and has deciphered the location of a lost battleship from long ago. It is in the Budai Maelstrom a massive black hole surrounded by a large nebula. However when the group gets there, they find the ship is not as derelict as they had been lead to believe. The ship’s droids over centuries turned it into a droid colony that hates organics.

Payout: 9000k for the salvage of the ship.

Five more.

Client: Vorta Kal, human.
Job: An ranking military officer named Vorta Kal needs someone to discreetly transport a monstrous alien creature (a Dashade named Xhem Wri) to a hidden space station.
Backstory: Vorta is an elderly Admiral of the Empire, she is a paranoid woman that has more contingency plans than a bounty hunter. The Admiral contacts the party directly through a very secure channel keeping her name and face in shadow. She tells them to make contact with a transport near Bastion, receive a cargo container. (Once the PCs receive the shipment and are a safe distance away have the freighter explode.) Then take the container to coordinates near Tund, where they will launch it into space. For serving her interests she will clear a large majority of any criminal records the group may have accumulated with the Empire. (Little does the party know an explosive device was implanted on their hull during the exchange. Once they launch the container, they too will explode, but give them a chance. The explosive will be easy to find, but hard to disarm.) The real reason for the mission is the group is delivering her personal Dashade Jedi assassin she used during Order 66. The Emperor ordered all the Dashade exterminated once the Jedi were gone. She kept it just in case she needed to turn it on her force wielding Emperor or Lord.
Payout: Clear up to 50 party criminal obligation the party may have with the Empire before the mission starts.

Client: Pezal, Rodian.
Job: A crime boss named Pezal needs someone to hunt down and destroy a rogue combat robot she bought from a shady dealer.
Backstory: Pezal bought a second hand assassin droid that was badly damaged. Pezal paid to have it repaired, when they reactivated it. The droid went berserk, killed her staff of mechanics, and left rambling on about an unfinished mission. The droid hijacked a ship and was last seen heading towards Onderon. Pezal is willing to pay handsomely and spread a good word around for anyone who retrieves the droid for reprogramming.
Payout: 15,000 cr. And helpful underworld contact.

Client: Brege Yophylo, Twi’lek.
Job: Brege Yophylo a guarded rebel agent, who is really an Imperial spy, needs someone to rescue a group of Bothan hostages from an Imperial transport ship. However, the job is a trap.
Backstory: Brege Yophylo claims to be a corporate security agent, who is a rebel spy. He contacts the group, and tells them an Imperial transport ship has a group of Bothan rebels aboard headed for execution, and they need to be rescued. It’s actually a trap. However, it is true that a group of rebel Bothans were captured, but they’ve already been executed even before Brege contacts the group. Brege got information that the PCs are rebel sympathizers and decided they were dangerous enough to set up a sting.
Payout: Nothing. Increase criminal obligation with the Empire.

Client: Hiri, Gand.
Job: Hiri needs someone to expose corrupt merchant captain Dodge Flynn, a rumored smuggler for Jabba the Hutt. Further, the job must be completed unusually quickly.
Backstory: Dodge Flynn is a up and coming smuggler in Jabba the Hutt’s organization. It is rumored that he even completed the Kessel run in under 11 parsecs. On the surface he is available for legitimate jobs, but everyone knows he is on Jabba’s payroll. Hiri is a small time freighter captain that Dodge Flynn has been stealing business from. Hiri has information that Dodge is on his way to doing a Corellian Trade route run with a big shipment of spice. Hiri suggests intercepting Dodge mid-run and hijacking the spice. Time is of the essence Dodge will only be on this run for about one week. This will cause Dodge to lose favor with Jabba. Hiri doesn’t even care what you do with the spice. Secretly Hiri will sell out the group’s information to Jabba once a reward is posted.
Payout: 1000 cr. upfront, 10 crates of (100 doses) spice, and a fair amount of bounty obligation.

Client: Brin’lia Twi’lek
Job: A corporate representative named Brin’lia Carte needs someone to discover the fate of a colony spaceship lost in the Neni’nor asteroid field near Ventooine.
Backstory: A colony ship on the way to Maltha Obex left spaceport at Bonadan. Sometime later the ship’s distress beacon was discovered in the Neni’nor asteroid field. Brin’lia is looking to hire someone to salvage the ship, if there’s anything left. However, no ship, no payment. Secretly the ship wasn’t destroyed at all, the Rebel Alliance raided the ship for much needed supplies, then commandeered, the distress beacon was left to drift in the asteroid field, in hopes that it would appear as if the ship was adrift then destroyed. Too bad the PCs get there before the beacon is destroyed.
Payout: 20,000 cr. only if the group salvages the ship, and brings it back to Brin’lia at the space station. Or Rebel Alliance contacts and allies if they discover what happened to it, and report it destroyed. Or criminal obligation from the rebels and reduce criminal obligation with the Empire, if reporting that it was stolen by rebels and/or report the location of the rebel base on Ventooine.

Probably going to use this one in my Sector Rangers campaign. Great thread and thanks for the ideas fellas.

That's a great collection of story ideas. Definetly a few gems in there I can steal.

Location: Any rough Planet

Client: Reba Delkor, Wroonian girl.

Reba's father, Tierian Delkor has been kidnapped by a local gang, and she needs help rescuing him.

Backstory: Rebas father owns a small weapons shop in town. He makes or imports high quality weapons. A local Gangleader, Grollum Deek and his group demanded Tierian turn over his stock to them so they could use it to "protect the neighborhood and keep bad things from happening to the shops." Other then the small stock he keeps in the shop, most of Tierian's weapons are locked in a vault. The gang kidnaps Tierian and threaten to hold him until he opens the vault for them. The girl, Reba, is afraid the gang might catch her and use her against her father. Rescue Dad and keep Reba safe.

Reward: A weapon or two from the shop, or perhaps some free mods.
