Legacy Weapon + Daemon Weapon Question

By Kiriel Remus King, in Black Crusade Rules Questions

One of my players recently passed the corruption track and rolled for Rewards of the Dark Gods. He got a Daemon Weapon, but the problem is that he already has a Legacy Weapon.

Should I allow him to re-roll or should I say that the gods favored him and bound some unlucky demon into his legacy weapon?

I say reroll.

From memory a legacy weapon can be turned into a daemon weapon but not vice versa.

I say if he likes the idea go for it! You don't have to make if a very powerful daemon weapon considering the combination is totally kick ass. It would certainly be a fitting reward.

But you're the GM go with what you think is right for your game.

Either he makes his Legacy weapon into a daemon weapon or some other (most likely provided, if he doesn't carry any other) weapon gets turned into a daemon weapon — they're still worth something if he wants to trade it away, or perhaps someone else in the warband wants it.

The warp is fickle and so are rewards. A random daemon weapon is still better than the duplication reward.

The issue is that Legacy Daemon Weapons are insanely hard to keep under control, which would often mean your Legacy weapon would all of a sudden be rendered ordinary and trying to possess you. And as Daemon Weapons are Near Unique or more rare, making the Elevation test would be near impossible.

You could argue that the (near) uniqueness of Daemon Weapons relates to specific Daemon Weapons, ie. there might only be one Dread Axe or only a few things similar to a Berzerker Glaive, but there are lots of Daemon Weapons. As far as making a Legacy weapon into a Daemon Weapon, seems like a good idea to me. I like the idea that the Heretic has drawn the attention of the Chaos Gods, so much so that his famed weapon has been chosen as the vessle for some dark entity. Very thematic.

Just be sure to only give it one or two attributes (so WP in the 20's with a Binding Strength of 1, or WP in the 40's with a Binding Strength of 2) so that it doesn't turn into a mult-rule monster.

I'd definately stick with the original Availibility of the Legacy weapon - modified by any new traits like Warp Weapon, but not an automatic Near Unique. After all, if it's too difficult, the players won't go for it and where's the fun in that?

If its a Legion weapon the rarity is still pretty high, considering all Legion weapons are Extremely Rare... Then again I find Elevation to be very abstract, what does rarity of a weapon have to do with anything other than acquiring it?

Elevation based on a +-0 Infamy test with -10 for each "base" weapon ability(Tearing, Power Field etc) and if its Heavy aside from Balanced, Unbalanced and Unwieldy, makes more sense to me... Then again there is the question of balance...
