Cyber-Cypher and Server choices

By Demitroy, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

Played in a tourney recently and the TO made the comment that the Central Servers (HQ, R&D, Archive) could be designated as a single server for Cyber-Cypher. Is this accurate?

Additionally, because the Central Servers were counted as a single server, upgrades installed into Root were considered to be upgrades to all three centrals. Again, is this accurate?

Thanks.

I think this is clearly wrong. If they were all one server then any ICE would protect all three locations instead of just one, and after a successful run you would access all cards in the archives, the top card of R&D, and a card in HQ.

Absolutely wrong. It's baffling how someone so misinformed gets to be a TO.

I actually thought of this after I posted. It wasn't a sanctioned event, and I actually ended up winning, so no harm no foul. I will be discussing it with him before the next event though.

Thanks for the replies.

If he still tries to argue the point, direct him to the boxout on p6 of the rules entitled 'Corporation Play Area'. Specifically you want the following sections:

The Corporation has THREE Central servers: Headquarters, Research and Development and Archives. EACH central server also has a Root.
If a root has no cards in it, it is considered to be empty.

I have added emphasis which isn't in the book for clarity.

Not sure how I missed that, but thank you for pointing it out Feesh.

Ugh. FFG should really implement some sort of qualification process for becoming a TO.
