New to X-Wing

By akldaddy, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hi! I am new to the game. I have been playing at a friend's house the past few weeks and LOVE IT!! I just purchased the game and I picked up an A-Wing Expansion Pack (love the manuverability of this ship!) We play a 100 point game. I am the Rebel Alliance. Any tips to set up my 100 points? BTW, my friend also has a Y-Wing that I add to my fleet. Thanks and looking forward to your suggestions.

If you like A-Wings look into assault missles.

4 prototype pilots all with assault missiles and stealth devices is my suggestion. If you have access to 4 a-wings.

If not try what I call General Calrissians Death Star Run.

Lando Calrissian, Marksmanship, Nien Nunb, Gunner and Millenium Falcon

Green Squadron A-Wing with stealth device

Red Squadron Pilot with an R2 droid.

If you dont like that.....Try what I call the poke and choke

2 rookie x-wing pilots both with R2 astromechs and both with proton torpedoes

2 green squadron pilots both with assault missiles

The x-wings go up the gut, the a-wings choke from the side.

Last but not least is Rookie Squadron

2 rookie x-wings

2 prototype pilots

and a gold squadron y-wing with an r2 and ion cannon turret

have fun

Here's a list all from what you currently have available.

3 Named pilots :

Luke (28)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Push the Limit( 3)

R2 Astromech (1)

Total:36

Arvel Crynyd (23)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Total: 27

Dutch Vander (23)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Ion Cannon (5)

Total: 36

Grand total: 99

If I am not totally mistaken, the Y-Wing cannot use the Ion Cannon upgrade.

.....I see that he probably made an error in the name and actually meant the turret as he has a 5 point cost on him :)

Even better I think, Use what I call the Rebel All Stars

Wedge/R2F2/Proton Torpedoes/Push the Limit

Luke/R2D2/Draw their Fire

Dutch/Proton Torpedoes/R2

Yes, the Y-wing can use the Ion Cannon turret...

He doesn't have 2 X-Wings... here's the list I would try with one X, one Y, one A...

Biggs [X-Wing]

R2D2

Horton [Y-Wing]

Proton Torpedo

Proton Torpedo

R2

Tycho [A-Wing]

Push The Limit

Stealth Device
Homing Missile

Keep Biggs and Horton together, that should buy you enough time to get off both those torpedoes. Let Tycho fly free and harass the enemy everywhere, since they'll most likely be going after the more predictable movement of your X/Y.

Alternately, go with a cheaper missile on Tycho, and swap out one of the Proton torps for the Ion Turret on the Y. Make easy targets for Biggs and Tycho.

I don't know.. having missiles and torpedoes requires TL to be present in force. That's why I suggested Dutch with his TL handouts like candy-corn on Halloween.

Also, I would get the X-wing x-pac if possible, because Garvin is a must for handing out extra focus tokens,

And Wedge is always good, in any list.

Wedge is the best there is.

Wedge is the best there is.

Though don't forget about Sontir Fel, he's a badass as well.

One on one I would definitely take Soontir against Wedge, any day. Now, I have been posting with great regularity recently about how often I have managed to get Soontir killed, but I stand by my statement!

Well just like Wedge, Soontir is going to be target one for combined reb fire. So, hang in the back of the pack and let that stealth device and range three defence work it's wonderful magic.

soontir unfortunately has a 3 hp ship. Wedge has 5 and negates one of soontirs biggest boons, his 3 defense dice. And wedge will get shots off.

Will he? Certainly not as often as Soontir will. Much better manueverability plus lots of boosts, barrel rolls, and evades are going to ensure he's got the upper hand, I feel pretty confident.

Tell you what, if we meet up, we can do a best 2 out of 3 of this very dogfight and find out! :)

Well seems as Soontir always has initiative, I guess it would be an easy win.

I mean, all it takes is one bad turn and Soontir goes POP, and the same can't be said of Wedge... but I still think that over time, on average, Soontir has to have a significant advantage.

Again, I am only talking about a 1-on-1 situation.

As long as he has initiative he will more than likely never get shot at.

I'd give Wedge an R2 unit and PtL. One good TL and Focus and Soontir is in real trouble.

It would be a very even match.

Wedge, PtL, R2 unit. 33 pts

Soontir, PtL, Stealth Device. 33 pts

English is right. If they both had PTL it is up to who can hit the hardest fastest.

Really it's up to the luck of the opening salvos. If Wedge can knock out to the stealth early on, it's probably over. If he can't, he's got problems.

You have to remember, evasive is not as good as attack. Wedge has a very good chance at knocking it out. I am not a fan of stealth except when you have 3 points left over and have nothing else to do. At that point you might want to re-evaluate your building processes.

Wedge is the ultimate anti Stealth device fighter because of his ability. First pass preferably at range 2 head on will pretty much guarantee removing the device. Wedge needs to avoid trying to maneuver at range 1 with Fel. Fel on the other hand wants to keep Wedge at range 1 so he can use his movement to stop Wedge shooting at him.

I would be happy using 4 Korrigans on wedge to zoom out and turn back in again to achieve just that, especially if the Stealth device is down on Fel.

At range 2, you've got 3 dice (1.5 hits) against 3 defense (accounting for Wedge's ability vs. stealth). Assuming Fel didn't boost or barrel roll (unlikely at this stage of the battle), he's probably got 2 focuses and an evade. Wedge possibly has a TL, or certainly a focus if not – and maybe has both. Someone that knows more stats than I should figure out the numbers on that, but it doesn't seem like a near-guarantee to me.
