Reflavoring EotE

By fjw70, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Piggybacking off my "EotE for non-Star Wars Fans" thread what ideas do you have for reflavoring EotE for more of a generic fantasy in space game? Here are a few I can think of:

FSE = Psychic mage

Gamorreans = orcs (obvious one)

Rodians = elves (high a agility and natural tracker)

Wookiees = dwarves (this one is a maybe)

What do you have?

I think WH40K does something like this (with orcs, elves, and dwarves in space) but I know very little about that system.

Mass Effect:

Force Sensitive = Biotic

Trandos = Vorcha

Wookie = Krogan

Rodian = Turians

etc.

Not familiar with Mass Effect. Is it a video game?

Yes, Mass Effect is a popular video game series.

Honestly, I would recommend you make new races for Elves, Orcs, etc. Though they might be similar, it might be beneficial to allow your player character's a little more specificness for more fantasy choices. Even if they are really similar. For example, though Rodians are SIMILAR to Elves, I wouldn't give Elves a 1 in Willpower. I'd probably give that to them in Brawn.

As for Mass effect stuff, shameless plug for the races that I've already made: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ix12bp8ivdt37hr/PVVWMzb43M

I was thinking about this the other day; this system would work very nicely for stories involving adventuring archaeologists and Nazis.

.455 Webley revolver: Ranged (light), Dam 7, Crit 3, Medium, Enc 2

Bullwhip: Melee, Dam +0, Crit 3, Short, Enc 2, Knockdown.

I have been running a Fantasy mod on top of EotE for some months now (mid-beta-ish). I had to change the Force to fit magic a bit and I had to change the way melee weapons worked (they all have static damage values). All of the careers and spec are a bit different too, but very similar to EotE's. If you have any questions I can go into specifics.

So far its going really well.

I have seen some of your work and it looks good. With the mod I am talking about I am thinking more along the lines of a space fantasy (i.e. Star Wars with the serial numbers filed off).

However, I would like to see an offical fantasy version of this ruleset in the future.

You make some good points but a this time I am looking for reflavoring rather than making new content.

My current idea would be let the players reflavor the races themselves. One player could take the wookiee stats and say he is playing a dwarf and another player could use the same stats for half-orcs or orcs. If a player wanted play an elf he could use stats for rodians (to stress the hunter version) or Twi'lek (to be a courtly elf) or gand (to stress the mental discipline).

Hey where can this be checked out? I am currently doing an Old West one, but I am wanting to eventually do a Fantasy one but was planning on waiting until the Force book is out for tooling magic. Curious to see what you have come up with.

I don't have it posted anywhere, but we do most of our discussion over on the d20Radio forums. Some of the stuff is pretty specific to my setting, but a fair amount is pretty generic. Magic was integral to my setting so I needed to figure out how it would work. PM me over there and we can go into deeper discussion or if you want something specific posted, I can do that too.

I've seen the old west stuff and it looks like good fun. I love the flavor of that and it tempts me to run a Deadwood-esque game.

Deadwood was another reason for the old west idea. A couple of my buddies and me test played the Sidewinder RPG (d20) and the campaign was going to be in Deadwood eventually. We had a lot of fun, but the system was SO lacking. I mean people standing 15 feet from each other missing over and over... it was kind of hysterical. We had a lot of fun with it though. I have NEVER seen so many 1s rolled in my life. I was getting sick of making up fumbles. LOL.

Okay cool, been meaning to checkout d20 radio forums anyway due to listening to Chris's show.

EDIT: Oh and the whole adventure ended with one of the characters sending off his horse loaded with dynamite to their pursuers... he lined up his rife... took careful aim... and rolled the ONLY 20 from the night. BOOM!!! Great ending. We were laughing hysterically. (Don't tell PETA)

I'm currently tempted with running a Judge Dread game, maybe with the players being undercover Judges. So Gadgeteer really fits in my mind as a Judge, and Politico/Scoundrel/Thief as a 2nd Specialization pretty much what I envision.

I am running a custom super sandbox setting, roughly based off of Star Wars, Dune, and Shadowrun.

Basically set in the Milky Way, some 10,000 years in the future. There was a galaxy spanning republic, but civil war caused it to fall, the communications network fell, and humanity was split up into isolated pockets of space faring civilizations for a couple thousands of years. Over a couple thousand years out of the fall, rose two main factions; an Empire, based heavily on honor and religion. And a confederation of corporations interested in personal gain, and technological advancement. There is a trade guild, built from a collaboration as a trade mediator between the two factions, who control the vast majority of space routes and navigation charts. Often times agents of this trade guild become smugglers and spies for one or both of the factions. The PCs play as Trade Guild agents.

Then I re-flavored the Force into a sort of evolutionary transcendence. I plan on optional Force Rating increases through story events.

Should a PC ever get to Force Rating 8, their physical form explodes as they transform into a being of pure energy. Their character is retired and I give them, what I call, a 'setting wish' meaning because of their transcendence they can affect a chunk of the setting as they see fit. And then we continue on from there.

Pretty cool sounding.
