what ships will be in the next wave?

By Icedragon, in X-Wing

DONT KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAVE PLAYED WARHAMMER 40K BEFORE. BUT THEY HAVE A SUPPLIMENT CALLED APOCALYPSE. THESE ARE MASSIVE BATTLES LASTING ALL DAY LONG WHERE YOU ARE INCURAGED TO USE ALL OF YOUR MODELS IN THE GAME. IT IS NOT A TOURNAMENT AND IS MENT FOR THE FUN OF WATCHING UNITS BEING BLOWN OFF THE TABLE BY GIANT GUNS THAT YOU DONT SEE IN STANDARD GAMES.

MY POINT IS: WHY NOT RELEASE SIMILAR MODELS FOR X-WING BETWEEN WAVES, MEANT FOR THE FAN BOYS WHO WANT MASSIVE BATTLES ON 8x8 FOOT TABLES OR LARGER (LIKE MYSELF) THESE MODELS WOULD NOT BE MEANT FOR TOURNAMENTS, OR EVEN LOOKING FOR BALANCE, JUST A FUN GAME WITH KICK BUTT MODELS. I WOULD LAY DOWN $100 FOR A BLOCKADE RUNNER, CORRELIAN GUNSHIP, OR AN IMPERIAL EQUIVALENT.

Squad sizes are getting smaller and smaller. Wave 1 and 2 you could field 4 to 5 Rebels and up to 8 Imps, now by Wave 3 the squad size seems to have dropped to 3 or 4 max for both sides. If anymore "wunder weapons" appear then you will be looking at 2 ships per side max! Not a complaint, just a speculation.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME?

Haha

SORRY

WELL IN THAT CASE I GUESS IT WAS A GOOD CHOICE TO JUST FINISH OUT THE POST IN ALL CAPS RATHER THAN CHAnge half way through it. That would look ridiculous :)

The TIE Defender would need stats like an Interceptor but with the shields of the Advanced (along with their cost) and then a few upgrade slots as well. I could see space for a canon, missile (which means it gets Target Lock on the bar in addition to the Interceptor's goodies), and sensor upgrades. A Defender should be an AMAZING ship but at a cost that will make flying more than two of them nearly impossible.

Yeah I think a Defender would have about the same stats as a B-wing with a few differences: 3 agility, 3 shields, evade action, missiles instead of Torps, and a maneuver dial like the Tie Fighter if not interceptor. But of course such an awesome ship means that it will cost a ton of points. I see the base Defender easily costing 26 pts before uprgrades. Making it impossible to have more than 3 in a list. You'd have room for 1 other fighter or a few upgrades. You'd see some 3 basic Defender lists but the high cost of the ship would probably cause many people to only take one with a few uprgrades and some other ships. Similar to what I think will happen with the B-wing

Since I was bored and reading on Wookiepedia about some of the other Tie models, I came across this:

Coinciding with the trend of improved quality in Imperial starfighters, the Avenger was equipped with deflector shields. In 3 ABY, it's shields were equivalent to the Assault Gunboat and twice that of the T-65 X-wing starfighter, though half the strength of the TIE Defender's.[1]

If we assume the metrics used in determining stats for the fighters in X-Wing are accurate (not likely, but for my purposes right now...), then that would indicate that Tie Defenders would have a shield value of eight. Tie Defender is OP!

Well true. But that also assumes that wookiepedia is correct. Everybody was sure that the hwk was going to be a large base ship. A lot of people cited wookiepedia and other sources they could find on the internet. Then FFG said "we got this info straight from Lucasfilm" or whatever. So at the end of the day, we may not have the appropriate official information to make the same determiniation that FFG does. 8 shields would make this thing more durable than the Falcon. I don't think that any snubfighter, no matter how advanced, could have more shields than a freighter 3 times its size. So if the wookiepedia info really is correct, they must have reduced the shield value on the YTs to make them more usable in game. After all, x-wings have 4 laser cannons, ties have 2. But x-wings don't get for attack dice. That would make them way over powered

What I'm really hoping we get is the Nssis Class Clawcraft

Clawcraft.jpg

It's such a sexy beast.

It would give the imperial fleets some curves.

Also, a Z-95 would be nice. Other ships which would be nice: YT-2400, StarViper class attack platform, Cloakshape Fighter, Assault Gunboats, TIE scout, Nyubba class cargo barge driver

I hope they just come out with upgrade card packs so we can get more stealth devices and R2 units. Not having 4 or more of those really stinks. And I have 24 ships. So I know people who have less ships than me are hurting for cards.

I could also see maybe clone war ships. I would love to have naboo fighters, they looked cool in the movie. Jedi Starfighters maybe even droid ships.

or the rebels since they were part of the twin suns squadron and Jagged Fell and his squad are pretty much part of the galactic alliance (and Jaina Solo's husband)

Looked cool in the movie? They have to be least favorite fighter design. Now the Arc fighter is cool. The gunship would be fun too. And the jedi fighters from revenge were the coolest

I think the vulture droid ships were quite awesome. They had one helluva main weapon and missiles. Did I mention the droid part. Instead of pilot skill we would have computer skill.

I wholly agree with you, which was actually why I added what I did in parenthesis, specifically because I also thought about the falcon comparison. Wookieepedia is a great resource, but certainly not infallible, I was more throwing it out there as a wild suggestion based on what I read there.

Not sure if this is off topic for this thread, but rather than a new wave I'd like to see a spin-off game with land units: e.g. the two and four legged walkers from Return of Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back. I'm not sure it would be possible to integrate this with the x-wing game, so I think it would have to be a separate game -- but it could probably share some of the same ideas and mechanics.

The larger ship expansions are already nearly the price of a core set anyway, so I'd rather buy a core set for a spin-off game rather than one or two esoteric, weak, or ugly (e.g. tie defender) expansion ships.

I am looking forward to Wave 3 though, and card pack expansions would also be nice. Capital ships, frigates, or other large ships -- whatever is appropriate for the scale -- could be fun too.

This thing is pretty **** sexy. And everyone knows in space there is no need to be aerodynamic. It looks awesome.

The problem is that so much info on Wookiepedia is based on the West End games RPG and they just made **** up willy nilly. Lucasfilm has canon stats for much of the universe but because of other media kicking around we are often getting the wrong numbers.

I think the next wave will be expansions card. Like someone already says, will be cool if the expansions come in squadrons like: Roge, Picaro, 128th Tie Interceptor, 181st Imperial Fighter…

I don’t think we will see ships because all the ships that we have now appeared on the movies, except for the HWK, at least I don’t remembered. So the Tie Defender and other that didn’t appear not sure if they will ever use it for the game.

Maybe they will start to produce ship from the Republic era.

I'd love to see the TIE Aggressor. The Imperial counterpart to the y-wing. Rear mounted turret, and a spot for a gunner.

I could point out the WEG may have "made stuff up" but at the time there just wasn't any "stuff" out there. They preceded most (all?) of the EU we know today. The WEG stuff, for better or worse, was actually the basis used for a lot of the Rebellion era books.

The HWK does not appear in any Star Wars film. If they only use ships that have appeared in the movies this game would be complete. There would be nothing more to sell - and they will find more to sell. The HWK is the proof that they are making ships from the EU (Expanded Universe)...It's just good business.

I do however believe that they'll produce clone wars era ships, but not quite so soon.

The HWK was way out of left field. It really makes it harder to guess at what might come next.

The Tie Defender is a decent guess and kind of a fan favorite.

The Z95 is also a solid guess. Cheaper, weaker X-wing that can carry a missle. It would serve several purposes. Swarms, filler, missle carrier.

After that, all bets are off at this point. They aren't afraid to add lesser known ships. They aren't afraid to mix up the large vs small ship numbers.

The fact that FFG is using ships from the EU presents an interesting conundrum:

As far as I know, it hasn't been announced yet whether or not the new Star Wars movies will pull from the EU or whether they will go in a completely different direction. I've heard that they may end up ignoring the EU completely (which IMO would be a big mistake).

If the new films depart from the EU, won't that put FFG in a difficult situation of having to support two different continuities in one game? Or maybe they will just choose to stick with the EU.

Just a thought I had. Whatever happens I hope there can be some kind of integration of the EU and the new films.

I want to see the Rouge Shadow, Hound's Tooth, Lady Luck, TIE Defender, Outrider, V-wing and E-wing.

I just posted this in another thread, but the Baudo-class star yacht would be an excellent Rebel freighter, and I could see it opposing the Rogue Shadow.

250px-Baudo-class_star_yacht.jpg

Wookiepedia says it's 32 meters, which fits nicely in this game. And it would be awesome to have Mirax Terrik & Booster Terrik show up in this game, along with a Pulsar Skate title.

Wookiepeia also says the Rogue Shadow is 65 meters, which I don't believe for a nanosecond.
